Any thoughts on this signature of “The Duke”?

Appears fine to me.

Please post photos of entire bill. Thanks

I would also be interested in knowing the issue date of the Australian currency(which I think it is). Wayne spent time in Australia in 1943 during the second world war.

Is this the note? It was in service from 1939 - 54.

Not seeing a date, Joe but yes, Australian.

The good news is that I can place him in Australia during that time period so I think this would be a nice find!

Well done, Joe.  Thanks.

This is a note around in the 1940s, but I don't think the Wayne is real.

It's unlikely that someone would have John Wayne sign a bill in such lousy condition.

If one was signed by Wayne back in the 40s, it's unlikely that someone would let the bill get worn out like that. It looks it's been carried it in a pants pocket for a few decades.

Interesting, Steve. What part of the actual signature do you think does not match John's signature? I understand the condition is not well preserved but I don't quite see anything in the signature that would alarm me.

Joe,

I'm not comfortable with the "ayne" primarily, but it's signed in pencil on a worn-out bill, so a real autograph can look off. The odds that the signature would be on such a beat-up bill is so unlikely that I don't care how good it looks. I think there's no chance that he signed it. It makes no sense.

There are great forgers out there. You often have to see numerous examples of their work before you find telltale characteristics. That's how most good forgeries are discovered.

I agree. If signed when the bill was newer, why is the pencil signature and the note in such vastly different condition? Pencil smudges, no?

I humbly have a different opinion. What I see matches up in my mind anyway. For what it's worth.
