Hi Y'all. Ive got a Lou Gehrig Baseball that Id like to submit to psa, but I have a nagging feeling about it and that is that it looks like it was signed with a ballpoint pen and I know that the ballpoint pen wasnt produced until 1945 (gehrig died in 1941). So i was wondering if I could get opinions from you good folks on whether you think this gehrig autograph could have been penned with a Fountain Pen?

Looks like one of those fabricated/reproduction baseballs.

I'd like to take Sherman and Peabody's or Brian and Stewie's Wayback Machine to ask Lou why he misspelled his last name. I can interpret it only two ways. Either Gehig or Gehrg (with the 'i' folded into the 'g', which I've never before seen). There's a missing spike in there.

As Chris pointed out, no good, IMO as well.

Actually, my question had nothing to do with the authenticity of the autograph, since I know its real
due to 2 facts.PSA-SIMILAR1.jpg
#1 I have an loa from JSA
#2 As you can see in the attached image, psa has authed
a similar signature to my ball AND they have rendered
a Likely genuine on their quick opinion.

MY ONLY QUESTION posed was whether it is possible that this
Gehrig signature was penned with a Fountain pen.

Thanks for your time

+1 presentation is unnatural.

looks like a copy

One of the reasons that I don't opine as much as I used, and it is a pet-peeve of mine here, is that I wish the OP's would post photos and not attachments.

Needless to say, I've never seen that color/texture thread on a 78+ year old ball. (Unless the color balance is off).

Also, no perceptible 'u'. The 'o' arcs right out, without coming back to the baseline for the 'u', and then up and into the loop for the "G" without any perceptible 'u' being formed, again, not typical for Gehrig.

It doesn't look stamped, so my feeling is that it's a forgery on a "not quite old enough" baseball.

does this look familiar?

The orientation is off, so they're not being, or have been, the byproduct of mass-production (inked prior to assembly). Without much deviation other than tiny subtleties probably due to unique surface imperfections of each baseball; is it Autopen?

wow! Somebody obviously made a copy of my signature
onto a baseball. But yours is obviously a facsimile copy of
my original signature, since if you look at yours
and mine side by side, you can see where your copy
does not have the ink fading and "real signature" look that
my signature has. Also, the color ink on yours clearly
looks facsimile. My is quite a different ink color
than what is found on facsimile baseballs (such as yours)

Actually, my question had nothing to do with the authenticity of the autograph, since I know its a real
autograph and a real vintage baseball due to 3 facts.

Mike, since you have it in your possession, and we don't, you have the advantage of personal examination, so why don't you tell us.
