I'm sorry. This is a common forgery.
definite forgery
It's very sad that people who purchased autographs 20-25 years ago, are discovering that they've owned forgeries all of this time.
Just like in the future, the thousands who have purchased "autographs (forgeries)" with COAs from Stephen Rocchi and his Guaranteed Forensic Authenticators (GFA) group are also going to discover that they have owned forgeries.
Sad and disgusting.
Brian, they don't match up at all.
Brian, when you first studying Mantle signatures, they do all pretty much look alike. But when you start studying authentic examples, over and over again, and then you see these forgeries, they stand out very easily. It just takes time.
Don't do that, Brian. If you love sports and it's in your DNA, don't give up and let them win. Try to shrug it off. You have a resource now, a good one in this forum, to watch your back. To help you look before you leap. Sports memorabilia is rife with fraud. Not just autographs. Game used uniforms, bats, championship rings and pocket watches, you name it and it's been knocked off and passed off on the unsuspecting to the tune of sometimes hundreds of thousands of dollars. In one case, millions of dollars for one piece, believe it or not. The most famous card in the hobby, the Wagner 8 NM is trimmed. People knew about it for decades before the book came out or the guy who trimmed it admitted to it. There's sand traps on every golf course and there's plenty in this hobby. This forum can help you to avoid them rom now on. We're glad to do it.
