Way back when, I bought two sets of similar Beatles' forgeries that had been checked-over for an auction house by the guy that runs IAA. I can't say that he officially authenticated them but it was £3 - £4 k down the Swanee in any event..
Ugh. Sorry to read that.
It was more than 20 years ago so I am fairly philosophical about it now. Sometimes you need experiences like that to learn to be cautious. Getting pickpocketed in Barcelona in 2019 was a similar and much more traumatic one.
It sold for 5,000 Euros, which is about $5,200. That would have been a real bargain if it was authentic.
The auctioneer was on mute when the lot was sold but I presume he didn't urge caution. I don't think any bids were made during the auction so I presume a commission bidder was (un)lucky enough to get it. With a hammer price of Euro 5,000 (+ at least 30% fees) the auctioneer must have known it was dodgy.
For sure. If I was the consignor and thought it was real, I would be crying if it sold at that price.
They are also a very difficult auction house to deal with. The uk branch went into liquidation with I understand hugh debts
These were fully authenticated by Rodger Epperson for RR, unless you were at any signing it's only an opinion Genuine, Fake, maybe as Rodger should know his Stuff? if not, what kind of expert is he? or just his Opinion.
Don't like it...
Does anyone have experience of Gotta Have Rock and Roll or have opinions about them?
I have purchased a couple of items (not signed) from them and was satisfied both times. They do offer interesting stuff occasionally.
I don’t like them either
