PSA/DNA Class Action Lawsuit

I don't know about RR items getting a free pass from PSA, but it's just the notion that generally when buying from RR, you would expect to be getting an authentic item. Therefore, you would tend to expect your RR item to pass a PSA inspection.

Happens all the time. If Joe Schmo submits the same item there's a good chance it fails, go through a "power customer" like RR and 9/10 times it will pass no problem. TPAs are more corrupt than politicians.

Same exact thing happened with their current lawsuit. People get pissed and I don't blame them, the system is broken.

It's all a bit wishy washy. It's ok if you own the company that's making all the money, a number of different submissions, more money.

The Johnson lawsuit? Unless it was settled? I haven't been following. Aside from Johnson's crazy monetary claims, the basis of his lawsuit is still the same as this situation, 20 or so items he purchased from RR Auction failed PSA, and that was when Grad was still there.

Hi, Ballroom. As far as sending copies of the QO results with his submissions, I believe the answer is no, but I'm not absolutely for sure. I will have to ask him. And no, they were not aware that any of the items came from RR.

As for PSA doing something for him due to the large amount he spent on fees, they said they would send him a $100 voucher! So I guess he's really only out $3400!

I'd like to get to the bottom of this. If PSA/DNA is rendering significantly different opinions than they used to, then collectors, dealers—and PSA/DNA—need to know.

BTW, chances are that your friend informed PSA/DNA about his QuickOpinion results, because they will deduct the cost of the QuickOpinion from the cost of full authentication.

Steve, I gave my friend your contact information late this afternoon and encouraged him to contact you. So the ball's in his court. I've done what he asked me to do. So I'll let him take it from here. I still haven't heard anything back from John Kayne yet. Just to let you know, you are right that my friend did submit the Quick Opinion results with his submissions to PSA...and all five still failed. Also what is surprising is all the failed ones that came from RR...which has a good reputation obviously. My friend's take is just that all these failures wouldn't have happened with Steve Grad. Of course, I have no way of knowing. But he is already missing Grad!

Grad left Sept. 30, Sobrero too. The new authenticators they hired are top-notch and highly respected, but not in every field.

I feel that losing Grad is a big loss for PSA/DNA, but I don't know much more than what PSA publishes.

You are correct, they are all opinions. The best qualified examiners are those that have taken the FBI Forensic course and have been in the Industry collecting and helping the community for 30, and 40 years. Names like Steve Grad, Stephen Koschal, Bob Eaton, John Reznikoff, Darvick, Epperson, Andreas and James Spence SR, in my opinion if Spence JR puts his signature on anything, I would ask any of the above to double check it, I have seen many mistakes in the past year with Spence JR signature as managing member, and asked collectors friends of mine to have someone else look at it. 80% to 90% were actually good. In some of these cases these items sold at Major Reputable Auctions that I deal with.
