We can make it a private group if the members want it.

I can't see how this behaviour can be stopped by going behind a paywall or making the group private. The flippers are already among us. How do you filter out the genuine contributors from those who only do it for profit, copy and paste?

Mikhell, This is true. Ive thought about this and the best way might be an email system. Where info gets sent to people behind the scenes maybe a day before anything gets posted publicly?  But even that wouldn't stop this 100%. We would have to start utilizing private messages in bulk between members who we believe to be trusted.

There have been so many times where I've found a cool item but someone beats me to posting on here. This must happen to many other casual hunters on her who are still genuinely in this for the hobby. Collectors who are not as fast or vocal as others would be shut out. If info was shared privately first before going public, they would potentially be able to pick up items not as limited though and it may be a way to get lurkers to contribute more. Over the years, there have been a lot of items I have found already sold out that were never mentioned on these forums at all, so finding other hunters and making them more vocal is something that would need to be encouraged. The more eyes out there the better. A private system could hinder this, but a mix of both public and private might work.

No matter what is done, there just isn't a reliable way to figure out who's buying for profit vs buying for the hobby. A private system would could affect the growth of this site and be a huge obsticle to anyone new to the hobby if not done correctly. A paid for members site would only take a bit of profit away from flippers while costing us collectors more, for the exact same result

My God, I should really stop writing before I'm fully awake. Haha. I hope my last post wasn't too hard to understand. I think I was half dreaming still while trying to type out my thoughts.

I'm just saying, which others have already pointed out, resellers won't be stopped and any effort to weed them out may only end up hurting casual collectors. I mentioned before about a possible tiered system, where certain info is released to known true collectors first, but even that is flawed. When put into practice, items won't actually reach true fans but instead go to the autograph hoarders. In the end, its probably best for celebrities themselves to decide who these items go to, but as long as they only care about sales and profit, that won't happen either

Another good point mentioned is that this site is not the end all be all for posting finds. Its one of many sources. Ive actually posted a few that I found specifically on reddit that was posted on there first. Would that make me just as bad as this Twitter guy in the eyes of reddit members?

I am all for any effort to stop resellers but  collectors use many resources for this hobby. Sharing info isn't a bad thing. It creates another avenue for true fans can find things. Maybe the only real solution would be to make the sale of all autographs 100% illegal. I honestly don't see any other way to stop flippers, but that idea itself is impossible and terrible for the hobby

the twitter X guy is pretending to be Autograph Live - which is not only a copyright infringement as he's using the same logo but also misinformation - I strongly suggest reporting it. If you pretend to be Elon Musk - you'd be down in a jiffy.

Yeah good point Mikhell, I’m sure all the flippers that are already here wouldn’t mind paying to get the info early as long as it keeps the profit coming in. But more than that I was also talking about the casual collectors that see something here and rush to post it elsewhere. I admit that it is a pretty good feeling to post a really good find but if you actually found it yourself and not just stole it from here, and again, if you’re part of this group and take it from here to post on you’re Reddit or twitter then you are diminishing the chances of a member getting it. I don’t know the solution and maybe there isn’t one, and probably not that big of a deal but it’s so aggravating to post something and see it show up elsewhere almost immediately. Just hope it makes you guys doing this feel like hero’s for posting stuff that the rest of us spend hours a day scouring the internet for. Your welcome

I'm sure there's a solution to this, we would have to brainstorm ideas for example:

*better process of validation during user sign-up - maybe sharing some private details with the admin

*access only after login

*Ghost/non-contributing users removed

I agree that we are often cheated out of the hard work we do in research so that others can purely benefit financially from that work.

Yeah I would honestly feel bad about the non contributing users being removed, I have plenty of time to search for stuff now but I used to be one of the people that just didn’t have time to search and relied on the forum to have any chance of catching anything.

The private group would be no charge. It’s an option if members want it. Like a private FB group.

Who is the person using our logo on X? What are they doing and how long have they been using it?

Please give a link.

Here's the link Steve

let's not act like this is the only page on the internet for new releases

We see many deals on here through Reddit, is that not a similar situation in reverse?
