What are your opinions about Roger Epperson?  Is he a legit authenticator of music autographs?

The only problem with that is that there are constantly new people coming on board (hopefully) who are going to have questions and may be fairly new to collecting autographs - unless we're going to limit this to a very small group of people, where newbies are afraid to ask questions for fear of being shot down. I know you can do the whole "search" thing, but it's just not the same as having a dialogue. Furthermore, the autograph world is constantly evolving, and there is always new information regarding a previously-discussed topic.

If we say we can't talk about PSA/DNA (or whatever) now because we talked about them two months ago, well new issues may have arisen. There may be new information about mistakes made that no one previously knew about. Just like a baseball player may be hitting really well one month, then all of a sudden he goes into a 1-for-40 slump. Well, the conversation about him the previous month was totally different from what might be said of him this month.

So I guess my take is that we really shouldn't censor the conversation too much. I mean if someone doesn't want to participate in a particular discussion, they can just go to another topic. Heck, they don't even have to read through it if they don't want to. It's just like, for example, if you don't believe in drinking, just avoid bars, but don't try to shut them all down for the people who do like to drink.

+ 1000 James, great opinion. I am also newbie and I really want all of you to help once facing fraud. I have just start collecting autographs for 1 year but already opened more than 10 disputes on Ebay.

Wow, Kit. Sorry to hear that. Good luck with that. I'm getting ready to go to sleep now, but maybe you can tell me some of what happened tomorrow.

James that was really well said. I'm new to autograph collecting and feel more welcome by your

considerate and understanding comments.

Thanks,

Dave S.

Well, thanks for saying that, David. Glad you're starting to enjoy collecting. Although I've been collecting for awhile, I've only been on this forum for about 10 months. But anyway, I think you're always in good hands with Roger Epperson. He definitely knows his stuff.

Thanks so much James. Yes, I agree I'm in good hands with Roger. He's Loa'd 11 pieces for me from my collection. I'm sending him the rest this weekend.

great post James...thank you!

THE WAY TO STOP IT IS NOT TO RESPOND TO IT--DO YOUR OWN THING AND LET OTHERS DO THEIRS

Well said Josh.

Not sure I said this already - I use Roger all the time - His quick opinion has saved me MANY a times!!!

Mark

Well written, Mark.

I wouldn't blame Roger if he never helped another person on this site.

Or at the very least, no more freebies.

Ditto.
