Some help with an John Lennon autograph

Hi,

So I know an old couple who has an amazing Beatles collection in their house.. Mean it's really something.. They've been collecting for many many years.. Their getting to the point that they want to clean out in it and wanted to sell me a ringo Starr and John Lennon autograph.. The ringo is on a receipt ip signed R. Starkey and I have no doubt it's real.. The John Lennon is very nice.. But took it into JSA yesterday, 150 later and it failed.. Not really surprised as they've failed the only other time I used them, just to pass it the same day when I had someone else turn it in for me.. Kinda seems like they favor the ones they know, anyhow... Now the Lennon may not be any good, but god it would be a shame to trash if it is.. The story behind the autograph goes back to the 90s beatlesfest in New York.. The couple went there knew the guy running the whole thing and bought it via their auction.. For the next many years it was framed and displayed in their house.. Many of their Beatles friends etc all stand on it being real and ill have to admit that their knowledge and history and the fact that their not even trying to sell if to me expensive as they rather want it to have a good home makes me believe them.. But right now torn between JSA and them... JSA said the j in John leans too much, yet I've seen checks written by John where the j leans just as much if not more.. So posting this hoping someone could give their two cents on this.. Before having to go spend more money.. Thank you all for your time..

I went to most of the early BeatleFests in New York City. Mark Lapidus was the guy who ran them but this was before Beatle Autographs were really checked and looked into. I wouldn't trust their auctions as they were not experts on signatures.

Apparently it's supposed to be a 1975 autograph. I don't think it's authentic either.

Could some of you say what you find wrong with the signature. I agree that it looks rather carefully written but the Lennons of 1975 - 1980 seem to vary so much that I struggle to tell the good apart from the bad. What are the absolute "must haves" or "no nos" for a Lennon of this period? Were there any known fakers of signatures reputedly of this period? Are there examples of their work on the internet?

I agree I don't doubt people on here, and agree with you saying it looks carefully written.. As said JSA said the j leans too much, but I found others from the period that leans even more.. The loop in the h in John I found missing on some of his as well, so as your saying there's a lot of variation in this period.. I saw another person on here that had one very identical to this one that a lot was fast to say it was bad but he ended up getting it authenticated by frank caiarazzo I believe it's spelled..
