Good afternoon!

First time poster here, as this board comes recommended from a member on blowout - poppincurbs.

I recently purchased an autographed OAL Ted Williams ball from an auction site that I have dealt with on multiple occasions and have a good relationship with them. I got a killer deal on it because a lot of people don't like to spend a lot of money on the site and all the buyers are bargain hunters, so I got it for a pretty good price.  Trusting the sellers, I bought it and sent it in to PSA which I received back this weekend with a failure.  It failed for the following reasons:

1. Atypical letter slant, angle and/or pitch
2. Excessive pen pressure and/or improper shading
3. Irregular letter shape and/or formation
4. Irregular spacing between letters
5. Lacks spontaneity, rhythm, conviction and/or movement
6. Poor line quality and transition between connective strokes
7. Sizing of letters disproportionate/exaggerated/undersized

I was just inquiring about this groups opinion to its authenticity, poppincurbs also mentioned that TerrierHOF has a keen eye for Ted Williams.

So where I'm at now is do I try and return it, or do I send it in to JSA or try again for PSA - I just don't want to sink MORE money into something that might be a loss - ya know?

I appreciate your time and honesty - be gentle.

Sorry for the only 1 picture, I can add more tonight when I get home.

I'll eat the JSA costs as "penalty"

It's called "stupid tax." :-) And we have all paid it at one point or another. The idea is to learn your lesson and keep the "tax" as low as possible!

Hi Claver,

First, thanks for the extra pics, but a good rule of thumb is to rotate the pictures so you can actually see it LOL. From what I can see, I don't like it, especially sideways spooky. Also, as a newbie,  you will NEED QUITE THE ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT!!!!!! SEE COMMENTS BELOW

"I recently purchased an autographed OAL Ted Williams ball from an auction site that I have dealt with on multiple occasions and have a good relationship with them. So WHAT? Who's the dealer? got a killer deal on it  (probably a FORGERY) because a lot of people don't like to spend a lot of money on the site  (Never get something for nothing)???? and all the (DOPEY) buyers are bargain hunters (Probable MORONS-refer to last comment), so I got it for a pretty good price. (Not for a forgery, you didn't )Trusting the sellers, (Novel idea, but plain stupid in this hobby) I bought it and sent it in to PSA  (No need to do that? Post it here first for free, then if you're psycho, go ahead and waste the $75.00 which I received back this weekend with a failure. (I'm shocked-NOT)

a little room for improvement Claver, Good luck!

1. Newbie to the site, not to collecting, been doing it for 20 years, and this is the first time I have purchased an autograph without doing my due diligence - I got burned (maybe) so, live and learn.

2. Didn't want to say the dealer, not fair to them, they might not be on this website and don't want to talk poorly about them because they run a very good business - they just as easily could have been burned too.

3. Just found out about this website about 24 hours ago - good to know for the future.

4. No need to be condescending about it - maybe I'm misinterpreting the tone, and if so, then I apologize - but when one comes looking for help & insight, it's rather off-putting when they feel chastised and criticized for it.

5. Sorry for the sideways pictures, they were appropriately sized and rendered on my end.

Welcome to the site and your baptism by fire with Fudd. LOL

Don't take it personally. He really is a charmer once you get to know him.... and he has a great eye for spotting fakes. :-)

Thanks! I appreciate it!!!

I second Zarelli's Fudd comment. :)

Welcome to the forum.

Now that I can see the whole signature from the different angles, this is no question fake. The d, the d into the w, the w, the a, etc. All areas that raise the red flad. As already mentioned, it is slowly drawn and you can see where it is pressed harder from going slow. The ink flow is not typical of someone writing their own name. Ted Williams, like many of his era, were very consistent with their signature.

just got a chance to look at the new photos. no doubt a forgery.  lots off issues, including slowly written, spacing, incorrect letter formation.......I would say its a typical Williams forgery, but I have not seen this style previously.  get your money back and you can get a nice one for a reasonable price.  Welcome to the site.
