Thanks but the real hero might be Jianfeng Wang, over on the Historical Autographs group on Facebook. he is the one that supposedly received this book early and posted the photos and video. I have not attempted to talk to him yet as I wanted to gather as much info as possible before potentially scaring him off if this turned out to be a hoax.

I wont have time for any more research today. I have a very busy weekend ahead of me. So I won't be posting much at all. I know a lot of you are probably thinking THANK GOD!  Lol.. I live by the truth and probably did go overboard looking at every angle possible, but everything had to be ruled out. Im interested in the truth and not a bunch of opinions and assumptions.

As far as I know,, this will end up being the most expensive item released at retail where the price is reflecting a faux autograph.  This is a huge huge knock on everyone who is in the continued fight against autopens, as well as the autograph community at large. I had some free time yesterday and wanted to do whatever I could to unravel this mystery.

Now, all the information is readily available its up to all of us to use this info, pass it along to the right people. Completely bombard everyone we can until we get some answers. There is only a small window of time to get this done before these start shipping. Ill be using what little free time I have today to contact everyone possible and demand an answer. I hope everyone follows. It seems like some of you are already doing a great job with that. Honestly,, thank you so much for helping!!

We ALWAYS have to let publishers know we will not stand for even a possibility that something will be autopenned. An item as big as this, created by a Bob Dylan, could give autopens enough exposure for publishers to finally get the hint and stop using them Completely. This is an important fight and we need to show exactly how passionate this community is over this. Authenticity is Everything!

Jason well done to you and Jianfeng, I think we owe you both a lot for bringing it to our attention, as if this had not been posted out we would be $800 Canadian dollars out of pocket.

I wonder what they will do with the hundreds / thousands of fake books ..... what a waste of a forest!  Indigo should be ashamed and closed down !

Sadly, im sure it will happen again at some point, just not on this magnitude. Hopefully the publishers have to eat some money. Tough lesson to learn.. just stop using autopens, problem solved.. honestly though, id love to know who was the genius behind this idea of charging $600 for an autopen.. someone out there, be it the publisher or Bob Dylan team, felt it was something they could get away with

I'm going to guess most likely replace the dust jackets and sell as collector copies for less money. Theres a slight chance bob dylan will add actual signed bookplates to put these back on the market but im not holding my breath

I'd suggest finding the current VP of Public Relations at Indigo and emailing them. Madison Downey is Indigo’s Public Relations Coordinator. I'm not sure if that is the same as VP of PR, but she may be a good contact.

The most common Indigo email format is [first_initial][last] (ex. jdoe@indigo.ca), which is being used by 100.0% of Indigo work email addresses.

If it doesn't say "TO CHUMLEE", Bob Dylan didn't sign it !!! lol

Here's the link to the Pawn Stars episode.

Even though he had agreed to appear on the show, and do this signing, Production staff on the show reported that Dylan was still very hesitant to sign when it came time to do it... even for Chumlee !!!

You can see the "awkwardness" in the actual signing by Dylan.

sorry for being off topic but has anyone had any explanation as to why he is so hesitant to sign? Is it too many requests and hassle to please them all? Is it something else?

Honestly, look on eBay at what people are selling their pre-orders for.  It's one of the main reasons he hates signing.  I met him in 2002 in State College  PA, and he signed a card for me, but he honestly asked me if I was going to sell it, and only after I said absolutely not, then he signed.

Hey  Morrison1 you're not off topic at all.

Dylan (like Ringo Starr, and Paul McCartney) don't sign because of both fatigue and resellers. They think the whole autograph process is ridiculous. Further, they don't feel that anybody "needs" their autograph as seen here in this Bob Dylan short from 1966, where he tells some Irish fans, "You don't NEED my autograph, if you really NEEDED it, I'd give it to ya".

I have emailed the president of Indigo about the possible autopen. Will update if I get a response.

I am starting to worry if it would be wise to cancel my Cormac McCarthy and Tom Hanks preorder. Don't know if Bono too? lol

I think it's kind of apples to oranges. Don't now what to expect from Cormac, but Hanks has been good for it in the past and Bono's been a great signer for 40+ years (and is also doing a book tour, in store appearances, etc). I wouldn't use a situation with Dylan as a barometer for all others.
