Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, Bob Marley, Bowie, AC/DC - what do you think?

Just saw this auction, which takes place in the UK on 8 May.

https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/dawsonsauctio...

There seems to be a suspiciously remarkable range of top quality stuff - I assume too good to be true, particularly as the certificates are not shown and the estimates for some things like signed LPs look far too low (e.g. Hendrix, Bob Marley, AC/DC, Bowie).

In particular, what do people think of these? I have more doubts about some (e.g. Marley and Hendrix) than others but all seem rather clean.

Rolling Stones

Led Zeppelin

Hendrix

Bob Marley

Bowie

AC/DC

If all the items are from a single collection I would have thought the auction house would make a big thing of this.

By the way, I originally posted something about this auction in the "Town Square" category but without images.

My humble opinion is that you are right to question these pieces.

plus one.  Have  had a run in or two with auction house

I agree as well. They're also selling acetates, negatives with copyrights, a Beatles butcher cover, etc. Strange auction.

looks like these were all signed in one sitting and many with the same pen

many very suspicious items at this auction

Absolutely no on the Zeppelin autographs. I have a Bonham and this is not even close... nor is the John Paul Jones.

Im no expert on The Rolling Stones but these look so 'wrong' in every way- very clearly signed by the same hand... and I dare say that hand never played in a band, let alone the Stones.

Oh and Marley was a Rasta, not a Rosta. I cant speak for the Bob Masley that signed this however.

the AC/DC is very bad as well

That is def not Bon's sig

There’s been a few Led Zeppelin sets like this hitting the markets through these auction houses the lasts few months. I honestly don’t believe their genuine. They all came with the same story that they were obtained at the Bath Festival.

One of the sets is now on eBay that sold through an Irish auction house a month or two ago.

OK - I'm going for the 3 blatant Bowie forgeries in this sale - they are attached below.

Station 2 station - well known scamming idiot in the UK who has grasped some of the nuances of Bowie's pre 1974 autograph but isn't QUITE good enough. Apart from official letters,I have not seen David Bowie write his name out in full since the end of 1972 start of 1973 which is the first red light. Second red light is this forger is right handed and thirdly, the hand writing is too neat for Bowie.

The Hunky Dory signatures are pathetic attempts and this person deserves to spend time in jail for the impudence ... I have seen another signed Hunky Dory in his hand go for £2k sadly. He only sells in auctions and avoids eBay.

The Tin Machine is poor on all 4 signatures -  half reasonable attempt at Reeves but all 4 faker than Professor F Ake, Senior lecturer at the University of Pathetic Forgeries.

There are some nice genuine Bowie's available in the saleroom, in particular the Arts Lab letter, signed poster from 97 and the signed Iggy Ziggy Boot.

I'm glad I'm not alone in my concerns about this sale.

I find it quite incredible that an auction house has to do absolutely no due diligence before offering junk for sale. The concept of "let the buyer beware" is all very well but an auction house should do at least some basic checks, especially when a vendor enters a large volume of items for sale. I'm sure that most novice buyers would assume that items offered through auction houses would have been vetted in some way.

It is actually incredible to think that vendors and auction houses (via buyer's and seller's premiums) can effectively steal (unknowingly in some cases but not in many others) hundreds or even thousands of pounds/dollars without getting into any sort of trouble when shoplifters can get banged up for stealing really low value goods. Makes the blood boil.

I don't suppose there is anything that can be done to get this particular auction house to double-check the items for sale. I have tried writing to auction houses before and as yet not one of them has withdrawn a questionable item.

If contacted auction houses before and even eBay but they don’t seem bothered. They just want their commissions.

when crime is so easy and not enforced, it's only going to spread like the virus it already has become.

So many of these smaller auction houses are acting like ebay and making the buyers the victims
