Even if the new film's stars attempt to limit their signing exposure (which they haven't) the supply will most definitely outweigh the demand. The prices are so crushing that it will cost thousands of dollars to complete a new cast piece. What can it possibly be worth down the line? There is just too much stuff and not enough interest in the autograph side of the massive SW fanbase.
The 1999-2005 prequels proved that, even with Liam and Natalie limiting their signing or not signing at all...that generation didn't care.
Now we are in the age of Disney... 2015 on will see a SW film or spin off every year for the next 2 decades, and the latest generation will care even less.
I hate to say it out loud, but just like stamp collecting, coin collecting and baseball card collecting......our hobby is slowly dying out.
Every man and their dog is out graphing to make a buck. When John Lennon moved to New York, someone asked him why he left England, he replied because people don't bug me here in NY, they will ask for an autograph or say hello, but you know..
John wouldn't be able to say that today, he would be like the other Beatles and say, I'm not signing anymore!!
Don't forget, Twitter! See what the trending topics are.
It's a different era!
Lately Ive been after the gods of rock or mini movie posters of movies I enjoy so don't care to much about investment aspect.Historical figures are probably the best investment. I figure the rock stuff will hold value for me as I will be dead within 25 years or so. The funny thing is when you go to Wizard,Chiller,Monster,Star Wars, and other cons there are crowds paying big money for graphs.Makes me scratch my head. photos with are huge also.As far as the future of collecting autographs,I take a dim view also. Peoples signatures just suck, they don't write anymore so its scribble and who wants that and you can easily forge and forging techniques with copying is getting better and better. So collect what you enjoy
Some say early rave posters will go up in value
Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but licensed trading card autographs can sell for big money.
Look at the price of Rittenhouse GOT Emilia Clarke, and Artbox Emma Watson auto cards. I can see Stranger Things topps autographs follow suit, and become more valuable in future.
However, I don't think you can go wrong with autographs from icons, eg. Paul McCartney, Marilyn Monroe, early Cassius Clay, Clint Eastwood etc. (all of which I have owned, or have tried to acquire at one time or another).
