Thanks for your help!
Cool World seems to have some sort of problem when you try to click on on item to zoom in. I could tell the U2 and Springsteen were miserable fakes anyway.
Graysonline didn't seem to have anything that looked real.
You can click on the single image below the zoom box and it pops up. Please look at www.musiclegends.com.au too.
Thanks, Rich
Music Legends looks like they have a more limited range of offerings. I don't really have a comprehensive knowledge of any of the autographs, other than a mediocre familiarity with AC/DC (i.e. I can spot a completely incompetent fake). Something didn't seem right about the Patrick Stewarts at first glance, but I could certainly be wrong.
Took another look at Cool World. Doesn't seem like they have an awful lot of "rushed" or sloppy examples? Looks like a strategy to me. Not as bad as graysonline, but I zoomed in on the U2. Looks like supposedly only Edge and Bono signed it. Bono gives a miserable rushed "in a crowd of Ebayers" type signature, yet still has time to draw a sketch, write the date (2000??) and write "U2" (something I never see him add to his autographs). The handwriting is wrong and even the sketch looks fake.
I am fairly certain that the Van Halen signatures that Grays is selling are not authentic. The top piece does not appear to be any of their current signatures and the fact that gold and silver Sharpies were used leads me to believe that this particular item was signed recently. The bottom piece looks like it was signed with the same exact black Sharpie.
These are just sad to see. They are not even close. Eddie and the boys would cry if they saw them.
Also, since the band broke up in 1985 Dave and Eddie would usually add an inscription to their signature. For Dave it was usually the year and for Eddie it was usually "5150". Since the band reunited Eddie has replaced the "5150" with the year and a "VH" sign.
These ones are supposed to be legit, but I´m definitely no expert in VH autographs. Signed in 2008, except Michael´s who were signed in 2009.
These appear to be their signatures but I have a few concerns. Did the person getting the autographs keep the same marker for Michael Anthony to sign in 2009? Why didn't Dave add the year to his name? Why didn't Eddie add the year and/or a "VH" sign to his name? Why didn't Alex add the dot under his name? It is also possible that Michael Anthony would have added a Chickenfoot symbol to his name in 2009. I know that he does now.
Like I said they appear to be their signatures but the fact that none of the band members added their traditional personalization concerns me. Where did you get it? The gold marker on the 1984 album cover looks beautiful.
Thanks Mike for your inputs! Got them from someone with great connections in the music industry, he has also been on tour with several bands, not sure if he has been working for VH though. But I have other stuff from him which I know are the real deal, for example Kiss, ACDC etc.
If you trust the source then you have a very unique piece of Van Halen memorabilia. You could only have done as well at a private signing. Let's hope that Eddie gets well soon.
Mattias, I have created a new discussion based on this subtopic about the authenticity of these signatures. There are things about the signatures that concern me and I want to get more opinions about them. Besides the concerns that I have mentioned above I am also concerned about the way that Dave signed his last name.
