79) W. Jr. L. Banham- dated October 1 1931, Letterhead NEW YORK BOARD OF TRADE, Inc. 41 Park Row, New York. 1 page signed letter, no carbon copy. A very strong letter exposing the critical financial situation of the times and noting multiple major players in the world of finance who will be speaking for the 59th annual meeting. He notes that no one is more knowledgeable or educated in the area than Mr. Colby and is asking that he honor the large group of world financiers. They offer him all the conveniences and comforts possible if he would so honor them with his presence. There is no attached carbon reply so I am not sure if Mr. Colby attended or not.

80) Frederick C. Tanner – dated May 2nd 1930, letterhead BUTCHER, TANNER & Foster 1 Madison Avenue New York. 1 page signed, no carbon reply. Letter is a short note mentioning Bill Knapp and stating that he would very much enjoy a luncheon for discussions on timely topics.

81) A. E. D. Mayo – dated December 3rd 1931 , letterhead VARA ENGINEERING CONTRACTING CO. 50 Broad Street N.Y. City. 1 signed letter, and carbon reply. Letter thanking Mr. Colby for his speech at the Bar association of Rochester New York. He states many compliments upon Mr. Colby among calling him “one of the finest and abest lawyers in the United States….” He states that the railroads are becoming the greatest industry in the country and are “… becoming the football of the community…” Mr. Colby replies in the unsigned carbon stares his appreciation of his compliments.

82) William W. Smith ( interesting autograph request)– dated April 13 1932 , letterhead WILLIAM W. Smith 1294 Putnam Avenue Brooklyn , N.Y.. A handwritten letter. 1 signed page, no carbon reply. Letter is from the man requesting Mr. Colbys autographed photograph for his collection in 1932 ( AND NOW IN 2011 I have hundreds and hundreds of them ( but no photograph) it is amazing how this man has reached through time due to my saving garbage from being burnt and buried….)
83) Carlos C. Houghim – dated February 26 1931, letterhead POORS PUBLISHING COMPANY 33 Broadway New York, (Poor’s Financial Services ) 1 signed letter and 2 carbon replies. Letter is in reference to the order of the 1930 Public Utility Manual and offering a two year special price offer for $45.00 of which he notes Mr. Colby had accepted) First unsigned carbons on May 24th 1932 prior to the letter from Poors requesting a call to straighten out orders that he says he did not order that he could recall as well as some other items. He is willing to pay the 45 dollars he seems to remember I the items costing. His second letter is verifying again that he gets “BOTH…” manuals for a total cost of only $45.00. Mr. Colby apparently though very rich was a man who watched his money very closely. Especially it appears when in reference to clothing, utility bills & companys, libraries and now book publishers he watches his dollars well.
84) Stadler & Stadler – dated April 29th 1932, December 5, 10, 11th 1931, letterheads STADLER & STADLER Mens Tailors 735 Fifth Avenue Corner 57th Street Entrance at 2 East 57th Street New York. 3 signed letters (2 unknown- {1 says Stadler & Stadler}, one carbon page. Dec. 10th the tailors remind Mr. Colby they are holding extra pants to match the medium weight Blue Suit they are delivering. They wish him to try-on the extra trousers for final fitting needed. The carbon dated the next day states he is returning the suit they delivered immediately he wants to come in to the store and try it on in “Front..” of the cutter. He as well will chose his winter suit material. Second letter Dec. 11 1931 they get suit are waiting for him to come in. Third letter is Mr. Colbys recent billing of $18.00 for a Sack Suit and Trousers.

Letterhead ROSSMOORE & ROBBINS Certified Public Accountants 551 Fifth Avenue New York. 1 signed page & two invoices [for $300.00 & $125.00] bills regarding services for tax work to settle out with the Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Agents to review past taxs from 1927- 1932-1933-1934.
86) Barrett Waters – dated February 7- 16, Jan 15- 27 March 5, letterhead NORTHERN KENTUCKY TELEPHONE CO. Augusta, Ky. 3 signed letters, 2 carbon replies. Letters reference to a possible large litigation reference large utility corporations in the middle west and meetings in N.Y.C on may 5th 1931 & jan. 15th 1931) {More BARRET WATERS DOCUMENTS I just found and am adding. These are dated Feb 7th- 16th 1931 these revolve around the Kentucky v. Northern Kentucky Telephone Co. in the case of the railroad commission. Mr Waters addresses meeting Mr Colby on the 27th and his opportunity in discussing said cases.

Ligante.

Wentling- dated April 26 1931, handwritten letter on lined paper. 1 signed handwritten letter, no carbon. letter from a US Navy man in april 26 1931 requesting assistance in receiving a review of a April 3rd personal meeting about a job interview and test in 1922 and possible assistance on the matter from Mr. Colby.
89) George Flint Warren, Jr.- dated March 2- 6, Feb. 27 1931, letterheads (LAW OFFICES OF THOMPSON KOSS & WARREN) & GEORGE FLINT WARREN, JR.. 2 signed letters, 2 carbon replies. partner in the law offices of Thompson Koss & Warren, reference to possible admission into the University Club and his request for a letter from mr Colby to the admissions committee.
90) Edward D. Brown- dated Dec. 10 1936 & June 3 1938 , letterhead BROWN & POLLACK 527 Fifth Avenue New York. 2 signed letters, no carbons. ( I believe in earlier years Mr. Colby was an associate with these men). Signed simply ED, one letter has a handwritten note signed by Mr. Colbys secretary J. W. Murphy.
