John F. Kennedy - Charles Hamilton mistake

Since some month I'm working on a John F. Kennedy signature study - in-person - autographs. I was a little surprised as I saw in a Hamilton book a forged signature of John F. Kennedy by Arthur Sutton.

Charles Hamilton published in his fine book "The Robot that helped to make a president" on page 55 a Kennedy signature and salutation from a letter. In his book "Great forgers and famous fakes" on page 164 Hamilton shows the same signature, but only the signature without the salutation and he wrote "Arthur Sutton forged signature of John F. Kennedy". I'm sure the signature is authentic and written by JFK, Hamilton is wrong. Attached is a scan of both signatures. Any thoughts?

Yes... very interesting. Is it possible he discovered it was a forgery after publishing "The Robot..." ?

"The Robot that helped ..." was published 1965 and "Great forgers and famous fakes" was published 1980. But in the Robot book he shows the salutation "Sincerely," and "John F. Kennedy" typed. "Sincerely," and "John F. Kennedy" is erased in "Great forgers ...". Thats strange! I don't think that Sutton wrote the salutation with a typewriter, unfotunately I do not have other Arthur Sutton Kennedy forgeries.

I have some sutton examples but am not back for awhile. I wil try to dig them out when I can.. I believe sutton even did an "ask not.... " quote.

It's obvious that the signature identified as an Arthur Sutton forgery is the exact same one shown by Hamilton in his "Robot" book at the conclusion of a typed letter. I agree with Andreas that this Kennedy signature is authentic.

In my opinion, you are correct. These are genuine....UNLESS A RUBBER-STAMP IS INVOLVED. Did that possibility go into your examination procedure and decision? Also, one could be the original and the other a stamp. I do say that is highly unlikely!

Andreas, your comment is STRANGE if you had comprehended my entire statement which included the words "HIGHLY UNLIKELY." Is English a second language for you? Or perhaps it's the definitions or sentence structure that you didn't comprehend. If you need assistance I will ask someone from my clerical-staff; or my daughter who is an excellent Third-Grade student of these subjects!
