Most younger folks (those under 40) probably only know Dick Dale from his great tune “Misirlou” being used to start Pulp Fiction off; or, they know the song that samples it by the Black Eyed Peas (in a concert I saw once, Dale said that Black Eyed Peas song made him enough money to buy a room edition on his home).
Those of us old fogies, or guitar lovers, know Dale as the “King of the Surf Guitar.” I was saddened…Continue
One of my autograph buddies always makes the two-plus hour drive to L.A. for autographs. Sometimes I hit him up to get me a signature, if it’s a book signing or something like that. I remember once he called me at a book signing and said, “For $50, they have this book that shows every Playboy centerfold, starting with the first issue.”
Playboy founder Hugh Hefner was signing them, and I said “Nah. I’m not that into…Continue
I’ve never liked the idea of buying hair. Wait...I should probably explain that. I’m not talking about the way Elton John bought hair for $28,000 and had it surgically attached to his head. I’d certainly consider that, if I didn’t end up looking like Donald Trump…Continue
I thought about doing a blog with a bunch of jokes that came to mind. Since the announcement was made about Tom Brady being suspended for four games for deflating footballs against the Colts, I immediately thought about Pete Rose and autographs. There was the time an entrepreneur got Rose to sign a number of baseballs with the inscription “Sorry I bet on baseball.”
I worked at a publication for years with a music writer/photographer that was always a blast to share stories with. He met a number of rock stars (mostly in the punk scene), and had some great photos and autographs. The best autograph in his collection came as a fluke. He was working a part-time job as a librarian and they were doing one of their book sales. We’ve all seen…Continue
Some autograph collectors only want signed memorabilia. There’s nothing wrong with 8x10s signed by your favorite actor, but they’re a dime a dozen. You can go into Pink’s and buy a hot dog, and looking at a wall full of signed pictures.
A script signed by your favorite TV show, or cast members of a movie you like, is a lot more interesting. To me, a step above…Continue
A picture is worth a thousand words...a hair is worth thousands of dollars.
I believe it was Napoleon who came up with the phrase (about the picture, not the hair).
A British soldier stationed with Napoleon Bonaparte on St. Helena, had a number of items he passed down to family members, who recently made $100,000 selling them at an auction.
A sketch of Napoleon on his deathbed -- $14,600.
A diary that had many conversations with…Continue
OK, this one is strange. 13 Weird Items Of Rock n' Roll Memorabilia, as I found on the above link. Why would anyone want the last bite of a sandwich from a celeb? Where do you even keep it? I do not know if I should say enjoy the link, or please (please) beware..................
