I had the pleasure of meeting comic artist and legend Neal Adams at New York Comic Con on October 6, 2016. At the time, I had no idea what he charged for a commission. I only knew how much I enjoyed his artwork on the covers of The House of Secrets. I also told him that I would love for him to draw a picture of Swamp Thing for me. Neal never illustrated the character of Swamp Thing, and I wanted to see his interpretation.
Neal seemed interested, particularly when I asked him to add a little boy to the drawing. My idea was to include one of the children who would typically appear on the covers of The House of Secrets. When I told him what my budget was for New York Comic Con that year, he told me not to worry about the cost. He charged me only $600.
Neal Adams was a pleasure to meet at comic conventions over the years. He will truly be missed.
Neal was always happy to meet and talk with admirers of his work. He was always in a pleasant mood, and he never neglected to take an opportunity for a good conversation. He was a pleasure to meet at comic conventions over the years, and he will truly be missed.
Thank you, Neal.
