It might of been the only ever, public autograph chance to get Davy Jones and Maureen McCormick at the same time, in the 40 years since this iconic photo and scene was filmed:
Instead, it was not to be and can never be brought together again. It all was to happen last February 11th and 12th at The Hollywood Show, in Burbank, Ca. Already scheduled was past show veteran Davy Jones. Davy, appearing as recent as in 2009, was making an encore return to the all weekend autograph convention. Then, it was confirmed that Brady Bunch star Maureen McCormick would be joining too. Rumors started and many knew of the attached photo, said to be the only one publicly in circulation taken of the two of them over 40 years earlier. However, there was a problem: Finding anyone who has a better copy than the internet image that would at best is a scan (of perhaps a scan).
The fans answered the plea from the shows organizers, and an almost original photo had surfaced. It was now all set. They had the two stars, Davy and Maureen, and they had the photo. Out went the release, and the fans of both these celeb's knew that this truly would be a once in a lifetime chance to ever, get this very rare piece of television history memorabilia autographed. Then, something happened that disappointed both the fans that already purchased tickets and a photo chance, and burned the event’s organizers. Suddenly, Maureen McCormick canceled her appearance (sighting, "other commitments").
Gone for that weekend (and later to find out forever), was what could have been. The day was not a total loss, as Davy and all his charm, his grace, and his humor did show up and thrilled his fans, one more time. It was to be a very short thrill for those that loved Davy. Very sadly, just two weeks later on February 29, 2012, the unimaginable happened: The world lost Davy Jones to a severe heart attack.
Autograph collecting is truly all about timing. Oh yes, luck, opportunity, and I suppose much more all go into this hobby we all call "autograph collecting". It took 40 years to bring this amazing chance to get this, oh probably very silly episode of such an even sillier television sitcom’s two stars together, but took a decision or two to keep it from happening. Fate, in this case the death of a human being, now keeps it from ever being able to happen again.
Here's a great clip of Davy performing at the show:
That is very sad that this never happened! That is just like the last tour the monkees did last year davy was the only one who would sign before or after the concert for us. But micky and peter have always been very generous signing ttm mail.
I have a great Davy Jones signed picture!
sad indeed.. i love attending our Hollywood gatherings and Davy rocked the House. i was fortunate to meet the man several times and got him to signed a couple of pics for me. Peter Tork was another great signer.
