Beach Boys Blowout -- Perhaps the best band collection ever

You’ll have fun, fun, fun, until the bidding gets too far away!

Here’s the deal. In a Florida storage until there sat a Beach Boys bonanza for years. The storage company finally sold it (think Storage Wars). That’s what happens when payments aren’t made.

The buyer opened boxes and discovered these lost archives of Beach Boys material. The collection doesn’t have some cheesy 8x10 signed by Mike Love and Brian Wilson. Oh, it’s better than that. It has thousands of documents, including what appears to be the bands first royalty check (for the huge sum of $990). There are lots of signed contracts (some handwritten, others are copies), and the holy grail of rock band collectables – original, handwritten lyrics!

Those include the songs Good Vibrations, California Girls, and many other hits from perhaps the most successful American band of all time.

The entire collection is going to be auctioned as one unit, and it’s expected to fetch millions of dollars.

(singing) I wish they all could be in my California…collection!

Amazing find. I bet the people wish they'd have paid the storage bill now.

I used to really enjoy those storage shows on TV until i realized pretty quick how horribly uninformed the buyers are. Either that or they are just putting on for TV. They go through those lockers and a 2 dollar item becomes 20 dollars all day. 10 dollar items they say should sell for 50, and so on so forth. Storage Wars Texas, when it first came out, i really enjoyed b/c their price ranges were much more reasonable. But i dont watch them at all now.

Its kinda like Pawn Stars and that Pawn show on Tru TV up in Detroit. I swear, you could buy all kinds of cheap fake signatures off of coaches corner, send them to Morales or Max, and walk into these type of Pawn Shops and get insane amounts of money. Anyone can fool Max off Pawn Stars, but at least the shop owners call in someone. On Hardcore Pawn, they just look at it, say Wow, go to the back and look up a google search on the net of what its worth and what they look like, and then come back in and offer money. Absolutely crazy.

But sorry to get off track, the storage thing got me going. But that would be one heck of a find. Millions of dollars though? I would never have thought they would go for that price. Im sure the older historical items would go for some high values, but i never thought millions, even with such a large collection. I could be wrong, but it seemed like when i first got into collecting that Beach Boys signatures were not popular. I remember seeing them everywhere at very cheap prices, and from reputable dealers. And then something weird happened, and all of the sudden their autos went way up in value and everyone was interested in them. At least thats how it seemed to me.

I wonder who owned that locker? Very very cool

These shows all have staged elements...if they aren't entirely contrved. Most so-called "reality" shows do.

Yeah, those shows are still entertaining, but so much of it is BS.  I also don't think this Beach Boys collection will get as much as they said. I saw one photo, and that "first royalty check" looked like a copy somebody made, of the first royalty check. That would be worth...like...maybe $10 to some Beach Boys fan, but nothing more.

they get their due in California but the beach boys are just one of the most overlooked of all bands in the states. back in the UK..and all of Europe they are held with about the same respect as the stones and beatles. believe it or not, Brian Wilson was a terribly tough autograph for a very long time...I know it has got that way again with the way his minders are while on tour or at events but at least he makes an effort now. i got him a few times (and a few times not) during the Landy days and it was a real struggle.  that was even before the boom in re-selling the signatures. i certainly miss Carl. You always had to walk with him when he was signing but he had a heart of gold.
