I have a couple of items that I want authenticated and one of them is a dual signed Dimaggio and Williams 8x10. I t was professionally framed and matted years ago but they will only authenticate it unframed. In your opinions I have had this looked at by some of you and most opinions were that it was legit so should I tear it out of the frame to get it authenticated or leave as is and sell as is ?
That is good to know when is the next auction ? Will I still have to remove the picture from the frame for their verification purposes ?
I agree with Zipper. Dimaggio and Williams are such targets for forgeries that if you do not have it authenticated by a recognized TPA, you will not get anything close to market value.
I believe the reason why they want it out of the frame is to be able to tell if it is a reprint or actually signed. I just had a episode like this, and you can tell with a high degree of certainty if the item is hand signed without removing it from the frame. Its just more difficult and time consuming. I am not sure what R and R's policy is on this.
Thank you all very much for your opinions I will look into that.
I talked to Elizabeth from R&R she is a very nice lady but I think I will hold on to my item for now apparently it is a buyers market because they said my piece would fetch between $250 and 300 but I know in a better market it would do better especially considering there are a lot of forgeries out there of these two sigs it seems like this would fetch a premium.
R&R approved it as being legit so that was good. Thank you again though for the recommendation and I will consider them in the future.
Well lets see: first damaging it by tearing out of the frame, then handing it over to them to put their stickers on it and ruining it further...hmmm....think I'd leave it alone.
