A Florida judge said that George Zimmerman, the “vigilante” that shot and killed Trayvon Martin, can’t remove his GPS tracking device and can’t leave Seminole County. Zimmerman is currently out on a $1 million dollar bond. It wasn’t this story involving the 28-year-old defendant that I found so interesting yesterday. It was one from a few weeks earlier.

Zimmerman and his attorneys came up with an idea to help pay his legal costs and make some money – he’d sell autographs. The defense team said if you make a donation to the defense fund, he’d personally sign a thank-you note (which if you think about is a better deal than Charlie Sheen recently got; he gave Lindsay Lohan $100,000, and she didn’t even call to thank him).

Zimmerman’s official website announced this, and it got carried on most news stations. The “New George Zimmerman Defense Fund” is hoping to have the same success the old one had. They raised over $140,000.

If you’re one of those autograph collectors that has some of the morbid stuff (and we’ve all read the stories about their collections), the post on his website states that: “…we will send a personally signed note to donors and will keep their identity confidential.”

They added, “Priority for the funds will be as it has always been, in this order: to pay for George’s living expenses, to pay for costs associated with the defense, and then – only if funds remain – to pay appropriate legal fees. That has always been the priority plan, and we reassert it now.”

I’m not sure how many hard up autograph collectors are interested in a thank-you card signed by Zimmerman. Now…a Bob Dylan autograph signed using his real name – Robert Zimmerman – I’d pay a pretty penny for that!

At least this case will possibly bring out the media fed reverse racism that is more prolific than thought. It will be an interesting case but who wants an autograph from any of the involved parties?

Brandon -- I'm curious as to your opinions on "reverse racism." One thing that's bothered me about the Zimmerman case is this. I think that guy deserves some hardcore jail time for the shooting, BUT...I don't think he shot that kid because he's racist. I think he was just a vigilante that was looking for trouble, thinking he'd question "anybody" in his neighborhood. I think, had this not been a black kid but a white guy covered in tattoos, the same thing may have happened. Or, had it been a black guy that was 50-years-old and in a suit ... nobody would be dead. Does that make sense?

It makes total sense. i was referring to the response ofthe media storm was 100% pushing the "racism card" even so far as proclaiming many times that "whites are killing black kids in the streets". The radio call in shows were full if that. Especially if you listened to Al Sharpton and Joe "the black eagle" Madison. They and their callers were spewing NOTHING but total racism in an inciting manner. It was unfair to judge "me" based of the actions of a neighborhood vigilante.

I do believe though (and the evidence is proving this ) that Zimmerman was attacked and ended up having to shoot to stop the attack. However, Zimmerman's presence is what caused the entire problem anyway. I can fully see why Martin felt the need to strike. It's not racism though and to call out others for the singular actions of a vigilante shows how patheticly weak some people's minds are.
