I just wanted to post these here to see what Fudd the Lowly Mantle Collector can do to help stop the flood of forgeries into the market place. The goal is that we can all start educating ourselves before we buy. To see what a beautiful signature the Mick had, and to learn to distinguish it from the obvious forgeries at first glance. Something TTA, STAT, DREW MAX, GAI GLOBAL (Baker certs) My Favorite Players Reborn (Tony Podsada) & Christopher Morales can't seem to do....at all? You will almost never see a signature in this photo album collection that would match or come close to anything that has been certed by any of those guys. Maybe you'll find 1 in a 1000 if you're lucky. To tell the difference between what an original hand signed Photo by the Mick looks like vs. an obvious Fake at first glance is easy. Give it a try. It's Fun!
As has been told many times, The Mick made more in one signing than his dad did in 1 year. He felt obligated to his fans to give them a "work of art". He did this by signing on just the right spot for the particular photograph he was presented. The size of his signature was determined by how big the sweet spot was. He knew EXACTLY how to fit his signature in so it looked perfect. A thing of beauty really. Please note that these are not all the same signature over and over, but merely a sample from my collection. What I do know is that these are consistent with the WAY Mantle signed and structured his Autograph as we know it. Good luck! FUDD

Right, it happens naturally. Must be a chemical reaction with the ball cover and the ink. In my early days of ball collecting, I didn’t know any better and used a few “Official League” balls. They all bled to some degree. Bob Feller signed one and he used a Sharpie before I could ask him to use another pen. Within a few years the signature looked just like this Mantle. A bloated puddle of a signature.
Important info to know, Zippy. Thanks.
Hey Steve...
I will post a picture of a ball I got signed in person by Kelly Preston (John Travolta's Wife) on a cheap ball signed in blue sharpie that looks like absolute crap now...I still kept it but never was able to through it away or sell it I guess just because of the experience getting it in Yankee Stadium while filming "For the love of the game" that I was actually an extra in...this also has happened to me on other occasions and its not surface damage like you may think...its the reaction to a cheap surface and marker ink like a china made ball and or a non official baseball...it also happens with pen ink as well but not as brutal as marker ink...marker looks 100 times worse !!!!!!! ink bleeds as well but really not as bad...I am almost certain that that was signed in marker and on a cheap made in china baseball..
I just read the AA news bulletin on Mantle. Im not sure where he got the 90% forgery rate, I dont ever recall that being discussed on here. Two of those bats must have been signed after a night out with Billy Martin.
Thanks, Cee Gee. The education people get here is hard to replace.
Nothing scandalous or newsworthy and I'm not sure what he's asking? I would agree that he knows Mantle's signature very well. He was another one I learned from on the GU Autograph site. He uses the name "Sammy", or so I'm told. I thank him for adding to the Mickey Mantle conundrum.
I sure wish he would tell us just how bad all those Christoper Moraless Drew Max, Stat (TTA), Birdsick, My Favorite Forgeries (Tony Posada) Mantle's are? He's just not going to go out on that limb. Its 3rd Party boobs vs FDE cheater rubber stampers and he chooses to defend the rubber stampers. It really ruins his credibility in my opinion for whatever it's worth. I'm starting to understand the disgust for 3rd Party Alphabet as well.
I don't understand why everyone references some of the authentication companies as the "alphabet" companies, but if you're going to go that route, isn't PAAS letters of the alphabet?
I also want to write that when I call anyone out, I call them by name; be it Morales, Taylor, etc.
PAAS is an alphabet soup company.
Aren't the letters PAAS letters of the alphabet. If people are going to label PSA or JSA as the "alphabet companies" then why not include PAAS?
Like I wrote previously, if I'm going to call anyone out, I call them by name.
