MICKEY MANTLE AUTHENTIC EXEMPLARS... READ ALL ABOUT IT!

I just wanted to post these here to see what Fudd the Lowly Mantle Collector can do to help stop the flood of forgeries into the market place. The goal is that we can all start educating ourselves before we buy. To see what a beautiful signature the Mick had, and to learn to distinguish it from the obvious forgeries at first glance. Something TTA, STAT, DREW MAX, GAI GLOBAL (Baker certs) My Favorite Players Reborn (Tony Podsada) & Christopher Morales can't seem to do....at all? You will almost never see a signature in this photo album collection that would match or come close to anything that has been certed by any of those guys. Maybe you'll find 1 in a 1000 if you're lucky. To tell the difference between what an original hand signed Photo by the Mick looks like vs. an obvious Fake at first glance is easy. Give it a try. It's Fun!

As has been told many times, The Mick made more in one signing than his dad did in 1 year. He felt obligated to his fans to give them a "work of art". He did this by signing on just the right spot for the particular photograph he was presented. The size of his signature was determined by how big the sweet spot was. He knew EXACTLY how to fit his signature in so it looked perfect. A thing of beauty really. Please note that these are not all the same signature over and over, but merely a sample from my collection. What I do know is that these are consistent with the WAY Mantle signed and structured his Autograph as we know it. Good luck! FUDD

Authentic in my opinion.

Definitely authentic.

Thanks to you both! I'm relieved. I saw Mickey at a show twice when I was a kid. However, I only got cachets signed, as I thought that "everyone" would have a signed baseball of his, but nobody would have the signed first day covers/cachets. I was right, but I lost out on supply/demand, not that I was going to sell them anyway.

One other question if you don't mind. When I go back an look at my autographed baseballs from the 80s, some of them are pristine while others have horrendous brown discoloration. They have all been stored the same way, out of sunlight, etc. Why did this happen?

very nice, authentic ball.  sunlight will cause it to fade, I do not believe it has anything to do with browning.

In my opinion, brown spots on baseballs are caused by chemical reactions from oils and/or chemicals used in processing the leather. They do not appear to be storage related. I have put snow white balls in a dark cool closet next to each other... Open it a few years later and one ball is still bright white and the other has dark spots.

So, it really seems luck of the draw with brown spots. Although, I think once you get 10+ years out, the ball will be stabilized and if brown spots were going to appear, they would have done it by now. My purely unscientific observations over the past 20 years.

This is why I would be very cautious to pay big bucks for a brand new signed ball. It could self destruct in 8 years no matter how well you store it.

Steve, i completely agree with you on the cause of the dark spots. I have done the same thing with two balls put away in a dark area. My Norm Cash is perfect and one on my Dimaggio's has spots all over it.
