I was watching a Jimmy Kimmel Live the other night, and he had a person on that collected grocery store lists. It was actually a hysterical collection, the variety of things people write down on their list of groceries.
He had one list that had all the regular groceries listed, with "pie" written in three times the size. He even had a shoplifters grocery list.
Anyway, young actress Dakota Fanning was the first guest. Somehow, she brought up the only time she's ever asked someone for their autographs.
Now, this is an actress that (at age 15), has already worked with some of the biggest names in the industry.
Well, when she was six, Regis Philbin was hosting Who Wants to be a Millionaire? Fanning explained, "He was doing this autograph signing at Macy's, and we went. We bought a tie he was there selling for my dad, since Father's Day was coming up."
She showed a picture of her meeting Regis, and showed the receipt she still has, signed by him. Kimmel laughed and said "He was signing receipts?"
Kimmel was baffled that she'd stand in line for anyones autograph, and she replied "My sister was a baby at the time, and she didn't get the autograph. As we were leaving, she was reaching her arms out towards him and yelling 'Regis! Regis!"
Kimmel said, "You should've told her he wasn't the real Regis, just a 'mall Regis', and that he merely goes back to the North Pole and reports these things to the real Regis."
Fanning said she told this story to Regis when she was on his show recently, adding "I also got an 8 x 10 from that time, too."
I have to think that was fun for Regis, to hear about a famous actress that met him when she was so young, and still cherishes the moment.
