I bought a bunch of autographs and among then was a 5x7 b/w of Kate Winslet.  I actually had to look her up I am pathetic with modern stars.  Saw she was in Titanic I tried to watch that years ago when I rented it in two VHS tapes ended up putting second tape in and fast forwarded to the sinking lol.  The autograph I wanted was perfect and this one seems OK, but different than examples I have seen of recent signatures.  I think this is an earlier example.    The photograph is on "This Paper Manufactured by Kodak" paper.

Given the size and appearance, my initial instinct is that this looks like a preprint her management would have sent through the mail - though obviously I'm not looking at it in person.

Hi Rich thank you.  I didn't really think it was a preprint since to me the signature seems to go from bright to dull when it moves.  Also the "t" in Kate definitely looks like a slight pen lift most preprints I have seen are perfect looking.  I know it is hard to tell without having it in hand. Hopefully if it is a preprint there are more out there that will surface.  I really appreciate your looking.

I went and looked and did find a couple preprints that did not look perfect so this could be one.

I did find a second example of this same signed photo although the signature is much different which leads me to believe it is not a preprint.

Thanks Joe.  Is this the one you found?  A friend of mine fount it.  The same photograph but different placement and there is no comma after Love and thicker pen.  I wonder what time period this was.  I kind of assumed it was before Titanic but not sure.  I collect mostly old album pages, cards, documents etc. these modern ones really throw me.  The old preprints were so flat usually easy to tell except for some of the old sepia tone ones they can be tricky at times.

Thar's the one. Thing is, it would seem that if the photo you have was preprinted there would be more evidence. I'm fairly sure this photo is before Titanic. I also cannot find any evidence of secretarial signings either. Not sure what to make of yours. I really haven't paid close attention to Kate's signing habits though.

I scanned it at 1200 dpi trying to see if this helps lol. If this is a preprint the fine detail certainly came out good I think better than the photo in some ways.

I am thinking now this is probably a very good preprint. It is interesting and would like to know if there are others out there.  If it was preprinted I would think it would have been at least 1000 or more.

I once had a very good Morgan Freeman preprint and had I never found the match I would have thought it was authentic. It shined in the light and everything - almost like the signature was added to the photo instead of part of the photo. So could easily be a very good preprint. But won't know until you find a match.

I am wondering if they had the photos printed then applied the preprint because they sure looks like it is on top of the photo.

That's what my Morgan Freeman preprint was - they printed the signatures on top of the photos.

Thanks JMS that is good to know!
