If the guy was say a 16 year old kid I can see him walking into the parking area, the Bonham car comes in thru a hotel  guard operated VIP gate common in 1977-guard puts ticket under windshield wiper, ----car -parks. VIP gets out-walks toward hotel---16 year old kids grabs ticket off windshield, runs up to to Bonham, begs for autograph-gets it, and carries for a few months in wallet to show to friends, to puts on room wall for awhile...

this is kind of how I see it too. One of my main questions is... how did the kid beat the band to the hotel?

Huh. Just when Sling had it all sorted out, GoodCat spots still another bug flying into the ointment, just like that! :)

Sorry Woody

I was trying to avoid getting involved in the story of this sig, but it's almost impossible to ignore LOL

The only way to beat the band is to either leave the show early...OR...Zep were partying after the show in the dressing room which gave the kid time to get there.

Either way ... it is a puzzling story.

question is, how did he learn what hotel they were staying at? Probably knew someone who worked there. Knowing that, he could easily beat them to hotel

Finding out where a band stayed in the 70's wasn't all that difficult.

Getting out of a concert and then to a vehicle and then drive to a hotel is the time consuming part while the band jumps in a limo right after a show.

How old are you?

yeah but you forget the after concert hyjinks-eating the food, relaxing with a beer, meet and greet, and of course meeting the  babes your crew members arranged for you to meet from the audience...

And it is highly likely that the kid could walk to the hotel quicker than any car from the show...

for some reason there is no "reply" icon to your last comment. I already mentioned a possible after party in the dressing room.

It's all speculation anyway.

It's very close to the 1977 Bonham signature I have. I would say it looks authentic just not the best condition.

very close indeed

nice on the LP

Bit of update info...

I contacted the seller and asked if he was open to offers and also a few questions like, how did he get to the hotel before the band and if the other members were there too. And why not ask the other guys for their sigs. It's very unusual for members to ride to and from a show in separate vehicles.  I also asked how the ticket got so wrinkled.

His reply was that he has been offered $1000 and that the ticket was sitting in a drawer for years with other papers.

Nothing more.

Maybe I was being too nosey, but I was bored lol

Just thought y'all might like to know.

So if you are inclined to beat $1000... it'll probably be yours.

Funny story Goodcat, I ended up purchasing this last year- and only just found this discussion.

I didnt pay $1000 in the end- not even close (cant remember exactly how much).

Didnt get much further with the backstory but from the discussions I came to the conclusion that it was based in truth with a bit of elaboration- it always make a story sound better when you add 'it was after their show'. I suspect there was also a bit of the '40 year' memory fog involved too. The guy seemed like your typical rock n roll fan and not a collector by any means. I do know that Bonham used to cruise around with his road manager more than the other band members though so Im not surprised the others werent there when it was signed.

Im very confident in the signature though. Had it looked at by a few friends that are very experienced with Zeppelin stuff and they were all happy with it- I also did my research and am pleased with it. In person its a lot clearer than it seems in the pictures, though the condition is definitely not optimal- to be honest it doesnt bother me and there arent many good Bonhams around, let alone a good one with a price tag that isnt completely stratospheric and as a big fan of him, Im stoked to have a complete Zeppelin set!

Thought Itd be worth closing out the discussion!
