Hmm, May 6th 1777, Washington is in Morristown to sit out the winter months where he set up camp for his troops since Jan 1777. He is coming off some historic victories over the British and is in the process of re organizing his troops for yet another few long months of fighting.
Not sure myself but I don't think that he would have been signing personal receipts during this important phase of his campaign.

maybe he was signing for secretariat. I would have demanded a receipt for him too.
