20 thousand plus is the estimate!
You never know in an auction. Obviously, with a Caiazzo letter, it is authentic. I don't find it particularly appealing though others may feel differently. A recent auction with RR had a signed promo card (normally valued between 10-12K) sell for 23K...so, it's just a matter of how many people are willing to fight for it. Not me !
I'd surmise that George did not see this guitar at all and signed the pick guard when it was put in front of him. That certainly lowers the value on it. You never know where these things will end up but I'd be surprised if it reached 20 grand. Although if a bidding war happens between two collectors with deep pockets....
Good point BJ! I don't find this item particularly appealing myself as a Beatle's collectible but someone may love it! Signature model guitars that have been signed by the artist are a little bit more appealing.
+1 Bruce. One wonders if that is an Epihpone T or Fender Telecaster guard. It appears three-ply so 8 holes either way I think, but do the holes align for each? I'd look under the pickguard and at the neck fit/pocket...are these direct replacements? There seems a lot of room on the treble side between bridge and guard and some oddness at the guard "under" the 22nd fret ("pocket" looking more square, like a Fender Tele guard). What do you see?
After reading the 2016 thread one might guess that is a cheaper aftermarket guard - not © Fender. I can imagine someone getting a boarded Harrison as suggested in the other thread on such a guard and then retrofitting it to "make" a Beatles guitar, perhaps on an extant signed body (hence the seeming mismatch). It is an interesting thing to consider. If it was the case (I don't know anything but from the scans), how would this affect value?
I correct myself - the guard was signed in 1997, the body sigs were obtained in this century. Either way, an in hand exam would be best with something like this. The serial number, which was mentioned in 2016, would be good.
To me it wouldn't affect the value much.
It's been sated that Georgey boy was at a different time already and indeed does sign pick guards.
People are buying it for the sigs and on a guitar
Why people put so much value on a signed guitar is beyond me but people are strange aren't they haha
If it was a played by the artist guitar then ya I get it.
So... IMO, I don't think what you are asking would affect the value much because the buyer is ultimately the judge and the proud owner of a show piece for those swanky type dinner engagements LOL
I'm not really the right person to enter this discussion but I'm willing to play along for added entertainment ;)
This one was being offered at $100,000 back in 2016. $100,000 was way too high for me but think it's worth in the $30,000s or more:

For 100 thousand you could buy some famous artist stage used and played guitar, some sell for much less ,others for much more.
Heritage auctions sold a George harrison gaurd a month or so ago and the owner forgot to peel the plastic film off it and George signed right over it.
