Hi, new poster here.  Thank you in advance for any help.  I have a Roger Maris / Mickey Mantle signed baseball.  My father purchased the Maris autograph in the 80s sometime and we went to a card show and got the Mantle autograph in person in the early 90s so I know that’s real.  The Maris to me looks fake but I’d like to get more opinions before I waste my money sending it to PSA.  Thanks!!

The photo's too obscure. You need a better one.

Try posting a clear picture and not a link.

Based on what I can see, I’d say the Maris is probably fake.  Your Mantle, however, is beautiful!  Did you have to pay extra for the No. 7 inscription?  It amazes me how much it increases the value of the ball.

What would you say a fake Maris signature does to a real Mantle ball?

It’s all in the eye of the beholder.  It might bring down the value just a bit.  I suppose it’s possible a fake Maris might offset the added value of the No. 7 inscription...possibly.  It wouldn’t bother me especially since the ball can be set so you don’t even view the Maris.

Other people might say they’d rather pick up a No. 7 Mantle without the fake Maris.  However, your Mantle is a beauty.  So all in all, I’d still say your ball would command a fair amount more than just a regular Mantle.  That’s my view.

It’s really hard to say.  I really don’t think it hurts the value that much.

To be honest I was like 9 years old when we went to a card show and got the Mantle in person circa 1990-1992. I don’t recall if it was more money for the # inscription. Some people in the industry said the ball would be worth more with both Mantle and Maris sigs but again the Maris sig looks questionable to me even though I’m certainly not a professional. My father purchased the Maris ball from a dealer in the 80s and we got the Mantle like 5-6 years later. I dunno. I’m contemplating sending it to PSA to verify the Maris. I did read somewhere that many of the Bobby Brown Maris balls were fake but who knows??? Certainly not me LOL.

The Mantle does look amazing. I wonder why someone would put the Maris autograph in such an obscure place compared to say the sweet spot.

That’s actually one reason I’m thinking the Maris might be legit.  A forger probably wouldn’t pick that location...
