Hi all,

Please let me hear your opinions on this vintage Michael Jackson piece. Thank you in advance.

In my opinion, I believe the above Michael Jackson signature is Likely Genuine. This is Michael’s signature when he would divide his name into two spaces versus having it all on one line (like he usually does).

Steve is correct about the flow being off and it’s a good thing that he isn’t quick to come to his opinion (which is what makes him such a respected name in the community). However, I would say that this is normal for a Michael Jackson signature signed in pen. Remember, the pen has to go through the top layer and cut into the middle layer of the material he is signing. If you remove the pen ink, you will still see indents of where the pen cuts through the layers to lay down ink. Sharpie markers on the other hand only lay ink on the top surface versus being layers deep.

Thanks, Big Saturn - much appreciated. As with James and Fred above, I often see you post on questions of authenticity regarding MJ sigs - whether easy or hard - and I always pay attention to your posts bc they carry weight IMHO. Thanks again.

I appreciate you valuing my authentication opinions, that means a lot to me.

Here is another example of Michael’s divided signature signed with a pen:

Great example and analysis by Big Saturn.  I think we have to keep in mind how much more difficult, I would think, it is to sign an album cover with a pen.  The album cover surface on most albums is not a particularly great surface to sign.  It’s not like the surface of notebook paper.  And with a pen, the pen doesn’t always easily take to the surface of an LP cover.  Such a surface likely would account for some of the concerns previously raised. Many times we do see a clear definition of most letters in vintage Jackson autographs, but this is not always the case.

Thanks Wascher.

And with that, I hope you’ve all learned as much as I did and update your exemplar files accordingly.

And to the fella calling me out for “berating” people - one does tend to get a little miffed when an obviously genuine item is called a fake.

Then why did you ask for opinions?

Am I not allowed to post for opinions on AL Live? Is there some rule against testing your expertise against the community?

As I previously mentioned, I have multiple vintage MJ sigs, bought from different sellers at different times at different price points.

This was always a real graph in my eyes, bc Ive done the homework and collected a number of strikingly similar graphs.

I posted to validate my own opinion. And I was right.

Is that wrong?

I actually think that reading replies without hearing people and seeing how its being asked can come across wrong sometimes (on both sides).  It is what it is on chat forums.

I call that a DILF: "Do I look fat in this dress?"

No answer was acceptable to you except the one you wanted to hear.

Lol I cracked up

Excellent, Wascher - this is good for collectors!!

IMHO, its often much too easy to get hung up on the individual “trees” instead of seeing the beauty of the forest as a whole.

These are all classic, vintage MJ - and show without a doubt that the OP was not some strange, outlier.

Wascher, if I had seen examples like the first one you posted I would’ve been fine with it. I didn’t find any and I looked at a lot of them. I’m glad you posted it.
