I'd give my opinion, just as a fellow collector, but feeling so strongly that the item which started this thread has too many problems to be real, gives me pause in doing so. If only they could ALL be as easy as that Montgomery Clift is as a ringer for a secretarial.

Elvis forgers continue to knowingly sell fakes. It's malicious. This seller has made thousands, maybe even tens of thousands off of selling facsimile signatures like this and other bad Elvis forgeries.

Where did you find the item for this thread, Greg? Was it on an ioffer or something? I remember seeing it on eBay at some point earlier in the year but that's long gone.

I don't even have a TV. My biggest monitor is 21-inches.

Very interesting. It sounds like they're talking about a multi-signed piece so probably not this one, but like I said, be careful with multi-signed items in general, especially Elvis. I have seen a small picture of Elvis with a signature on the front and the back but that's about it. I think it's a tactic usually used by forgers to up the value of the item.

 

Perhaps like Roger suggested was possible, this postcard was at the very least a template to make the others? I'm not sure. Although I barely see the need for well-made forgeries when people on eBay will spend $300-$400 bucks on any piece of junk they see. I swear someone would buy an Elvis auto on a CD.

Just curious, are you trying to dance around and say I was wrong about an autograph?  If so just come out and say it, I don't take offense to your opinion but playing this little "song game" to say something about me isn't needed.  Please note my knowledge of Hans Bakker.  Please note that I flew to Amsterdam and met him, he picked me up at the airport and I went to his factory err house.  I have pictures of me with him in his house.  Rich Consola and I figured the guy out and saved the collectors millions of dollars in potential damages and fraud.  This could have went on for years if we hadn't stopped it.  Getting someone arrested for fraud in another country isn't easy either.  He never was arrested or even got in trouble to best of my knowledge.

 

So what I am saying is if you think I made a mistake and want to post it on a worldwide blog go ahead but don't tap dance your opinions about me or anyone else for that matter.  I will listen to your points and if it changes my opinion so be it and if not just the same.

I agree, Roger. When people aren't clear they confuse the public. This site is here to help collectors, not make it so they can't tell up from down. 

Greg, you're trying too hard to be clever and show that you're smarter than everyone else. You very well may be, but it's often frustrating and not constructive. 

Autographs are like your business—sometimes it's hard to tell where the stench is coming from. But by working together we can make things better.

Someone sent me this email from an anonymous remailer—and I didn't realize it until after I replied. I think others may feel like this person does, so I'll post his message and my reply:

"i've never seen a more patronizing statement, why cant the man post what he wants? calling him names like someone who is acting too smart? what are your shortcomings?its freedom of speech, he can post what he wants to. maybe someone should come on there and call you what they think of you, a jerk, a moron? thats what you are doing to greg. why should anyone have to put up with this? i think greg should tell you off, tell everyone what he really thinks. so you are the only one who gets to speak freely? disturbing!
you get to decide what is constructive, and what is not. little dictator i call it."

My reply:

Thanks for telling me what you think. I honestly appreciate it.

We let people say what they want in almost all cases, but when people are so unclear that it's easy for collectors, especially new ones, to become confused, or take it the wrong way, I draw the line. And Greg has been doing this again and again. Here's a discussion where he claimed he had 1,000 Jackie Gleason signed photos, and people believed him until I had him clarify that it was a story.

There has to be a degree of order on this site for it to benefit the community the best it can. It can't be a free for all. I'm sorry I offended you, and I'll think about what you said, but I don’t always make friends in this job.

I like Greg and respect his knowledge and passion. Maybe it's an east coast thing where I prefer information to be direct and to the point :-) , but I also find these threads are at times confusing and unclear. When it is a written medium, the "wink wink, nudge nudge" stuff just doesn't work.

 

Regarding the Gleason thread, there is suspected secretarial after secretarial listed, but was there one authentic exemplar to which to compare? (Other than the chalk board image.)

 

Also, from my perspective, part of the issue is the way these boards operate. Non sequential posting that leaves you jumping from page to page to follow the latest posts is very confusing to me and an inefficient way to follow the discussion. One has to click on the link in every email notification to see everything. Very easy to miss part of the discussion.

Just answer the question.  Quit acting like someone who thinks they are above us all. 

If you remember right you acted silly to another dealer on this site before and then apologized for your silly statements.  We are all grownups here, lets at least try to act like them.

 

I have stated that I in fact do respect your opinion but I don't play games and avoid the questions asked.
