you're right for the story ... but why should they be fake, the last word is not said ...
And also the FREE signed lp not have story in that auction... but the autographs are perfect genuine...
I wouldn’t buy either of them.
Omega Auctions in the UK has put up at least 4 or 5 fully signed Led Zep albums in the last two years. It makes you wonder if they are coming from the same consignor.
If that is correct about that auction and there is around 20 Led zeppelin LP’s in existence what have turned up so far, then a quarter have come up for sale in one auction over the past two or three years.
Christie’s and Bonham’s don’t get them in like that they must be good at finding them.
I think also for music, the auctions of Bonhams and Christies are finished... there are always less items... and nothing special...
Bonhams, Christie’s and Sotheby’s were full of pop memorabilia for over 35 years they have had the best of the best Beatles lyrics, Beatles personal owned guitars, clothes, drums Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Elvis etc
In the last 35 years all the three companies have had less fully signed Led zeppelin for sale in there auctions than omega have had.
I also believe one thing who got Led Zeppelin autographs in the 1970s will probably be around 70 now, and I think it's a good age to get rid of certain memorabilia ... the fact that these albums are out more frequently on Omega auctions , does not mean that they are necessarily fake.
I also believe that in the 70s and 80s it was more popular to have an album signed and not an autograph book as in the 60s ... so I think there are many Zep signed albums that we don't know ... and very few autographs on autograph book.
I'm at my desk now and looking at the Led Zep IV signatures in higher resolution. I'll start with the John Paul Jones. It has obvious signs of not being naturally signed looking at the closeup image. Click to see a larger version.
The image is a high quality JPG, not the usual degraded ones we see, so it's shows things clearly.
Look at the jaggedness on the edges of the entire signature, and the blockiness in parts of the top of the J, and where the J starts. Notice there are very few signs of variations in line thickness.
Notice the lightness and darkness inside the strokes don't flow, they're rigid and blocky.
I think this has a good chance of being applied by laser ink transfer paper, but not using a high enough resolution laser printer to get smooth edges. I have seen ones much better.
The other 3 signatures on the Led Zep 4 are even rougher and have more signs of jaggedness like a low quality digital transfer, but the photo they're on is not as high quality or large enough of a JPG as the Jones closeup.
Mr Mojo, if you have better photos of the other 3 please post them.
All photos are in the Omega auction site...
