About a week and a half ago, I sent a request through the mail to baseball Hall of Fame pitcher, Rollie Fingers. I did my research and found that he will sign small cards and small flats for $10 a piece. So I mailed him a nice, hand written letter requesting his autograph on my plaque card I have of him, along with a $10 bill. What I got back was very disappointing. I got back the other day a note saying to send back the plaque card with $15, because, quote, "No money in envelope." Well where did my $10 go? Did the mailman open the envelope and take it? Did one of Mr. Fingers' handlers hard up for lunch money take it? Or, and I really don't want to believe this, did Mr. Fingers take my money, sned back my plaque card, and then ask for more cash? I just don't understand. Has this happened to anyone else before? Where did I go wrong?

I don't think he would intentionally rob you and it's doubtful the mailmain took it.
Odds are it was a mixup by whoever was opening and organizing the mail. Sorry.
And that's something else I thought about, too. I've gotten cards back that were not mine, things personalized, "To Steve,...", just to name a few. I know mix ups happen, and I don't mind them when they do. I wouldn't think he would intentionally rob me either; I am just disappointed that I followed the directions to the T about how much for what item, and I did not get it. BUT, I have gotten countless other Hall of Famers for free, so I've told myself that it all balances out in the end.
And see, I know that, but was told by a person who charges through the mail not to send a check, because they bounce, the celebrity has to go to the bank and cash it, and it is a hassle for them. The person said that they would rather have the cash. I am most definately doing the check method next time, or a money order. And if the person I am requesting an autograph from does not like it, then they don't have to sign for me. This is the first time I have ever paid for an autograph and did not get it, so I guess that's what I am most disappointed about.
Do any banks actually return the cashed checks anymore? LOL
I thought they all had stopped that.
