Stamp.
I know Chaplin well, and this is a stamp. Chaplin was the most famous man in the world in the first half of the 20th century. 90-95% of his early autographs are stamps or secretarial. He probably got thousands of letters weekly. A good rule of thumb is buy Chaplin from his later period when he was in exile as they are mostly all authentic unless they were signed by Oona, and in that case you can tell.
The other one is not authentic either.
Etienne, the photo you posted is not in the hand of Chaplin in my opinion. You can see what others have to say though. Don’t want to hijack a thread.
Are you referring to the profile postcard one up from yours, Nick ?
Yes, I have seen these before and have always been an early 20th century stamped signature. It does seem to mimic the real thing but I have never seen an authentic one before.
Thanks, Nick. It doesn't immediately look like a stamp to me. It's a postcard that has been trimmed slightly. I agree on the vast majority of postcards that have that larger blank space at the bottom and "Faithfully" included with the stamped signature. This one, I'm thinking is real. I'd invite others to weigh in on it.
I would stay away from it nevertheless as it entertains doubt. I’m a stay at home dad that is bored so I immediately jump into all these conversations but others can surely chime in. Just my two cents as an amateur authenticator.
