How was it packaged for shipping?
Yours looks like it arrived in great shape. Was that luck or did they property wrap it?
I am always apprehensive about ordering books by mail...
Yes, mine arrived in perfect condition, in thick, wraparound card packaging, similar to that used by Blackwell’s. It was delivered by the DPD courier service.
Not sure where you’re based, but I’m in the U.K., so YMMV.
Got mine today, it got damaged some in shipping, the mailer got ripped open and retaped... but it's a very nice book. Signature in mine is similar, small but clean looking signature. Really nice book though, i was impressed.
Oh, what a shame about the damage. Sorry to hear that.
Phaidon still shows the signed edition as being available to purchase via their own website. If I were you, I’d be contacting them for a replacement.
Like you, I was impressed by the quality of the book. Not sure what I was expecting, TBH. It’s certainly smaller than I had pictured, but the thick, cloth-bound boards with their debossed text make it feel sumptuous to hold.
I had planned to contact them and get a replacement, but for some reason can't find the order email for the life of me. I've searched my emails for the words I thought would be in the order email but can't seem to find it. Maybe I'll just send them an email with a pic of the receipt. The cover got a pretty bad scrape and some of the gold foil got rubbed off where it scraped, definitely a shame on a book this nice.
I agree, it was a bit smaller than I expected, but really nice quality. I love his artwork/drawing style. Wouldn't have minded a larger signature... kind of funny to have a tiny signature on the bottom corner, but still very cool full signature. Much better than the stuff some celebs call a signature these days.
I'd recommend anyone picking this book up. Other than the damage (which I don't blame them for, the mailer was completely ripped open on the front) I'm really happy with it. Hopefully I can get a replacement before they sell out of them. I'm honestly surprised it wasn't damaged worse. But very cool item overall.
Thanks for the info, that's good to hear... well not that you didn't get a response, but that I'm not losing my mind trying to find an email that wasn't there. Lol. I'll just email them directly and hope for a response.
This is why I keep a list of outstanding orders in the Notes app of my iPhone, as well as never deleting anything other than spam from my emails. My short-term memory isn’t getting any better now that I’m over 50.
Just to be clear, I never made an enquiry with Phaidon Customer Services, so never expected a response. This email was what I received in lieu of a normal confirmation email detailing my order. It arrived separately from, but at the exact same time as, my PayPal confirmation email. I thought it odd, but shrugged it off without further ado, assuming that they’d received my order and it would all come good in the end, which it did.
I imagine you have a similarly generic email, somewhere, from Phaidon, unless it ended up in your junk folder, or was deleted in error.
Hope you manage to get a replacement without too much fuss.
£40 is a bit steep, above the publishing price.
The book is still available from Phaidon direct for £29.95:
