I've had this Bela Lugosi SP that I'm now focusing on more seriously.  I see things l like. Some I'm not sure of ( esp. the "B" looking somewhat  atypical...although it's connection to an authentic style "e" following it looks right).

That "a" in Bela looks right.  I've also seen him make the break in his surname ("Lug osi").  This came out of a batch of authentic signed photos from this same collector "Mush" from the mid-1930's.

Any help would be appreciated!

..and here's a Lugosi from the same mi-30's period as the OP.

 - The "M" in "Mrs." here looks like the "M" in "Mush" in the OP.

 - The "r"s are formed with a more flattened top in both.

 - "Bela" matches up very well.

 - There's a some variance in "Lugosi"...but the overall look seems right.

Here are some Lugosi dedications and signatures to look at: 1930's dedicated and incribed. Last is his 1944 Motion Picture Card.

"...remembrance..." - a hard word for him early on and again, broken - same with "...sincerely...".

"remembrance" -  (RRauction/PSA )

"sincerely" - very early (RRauction/Beckett)

-  Both Smooth Flowing & Not Broken:

Yes, but look at the flavor. The "rememberance" appears hard to execute for him and what you posted shows that - it is not smooth.

Another thing to also keep in mind is that often the baseline on his signature would see the "Bela" starting out a bit lower and the  "Lugosi" a bit higher.  It's sometimes very slight....but usually there.

Yes, aware of that. It is a curious SP. I've sent it to Dr. B for an opinion.

I won't be surprised if it is good. Just atypical to me. I see some things that indicate this.

I've heard back from Dr. Brucato - indeed authentic and a bit unusual. Item dates to 1931 with a long list owners.

There you have it. :)

I had a conversation this evening with a friend who is an astute "old-timer" in the autograph collecting hobby as well as a respected dealer.  He gives the OP  Lugosi portrait a thumbs up opinion as well.

He commented on how it appears Bela did take his time, with intention, to inscribe and sign this special image.  Particularly so since "Mush" had the  "power of the press" behind him...and that would have meant something to an actor.

Seems like it's a winner all the way around!

Congratulations, Etienne!! What good news! I'm very happy for you that this fantastic item has proved authentic. Enjoy!

Thanks, KaiMi!   Having it thoroughly examined by you guys as well as the endorsement of the two dealers makes me happy!
