I got mine 100% because I wanted it, and that's the only reason. Of course I hope anything I buy goes up in value and not down, I'd assume most people hope that with any item they buy to collect. Nobody says I really hope my item isn't worth anything in 5 years. So I guess in that sense the value matters. I hope anything I collect is more valuable by the time my stuff is sold off and goes to my kid... but that's not the reason I bought it. Also nobody wants to overpay, so saying this is a good investment to me doesn't necessarily mean it's going to 10x in value, it means it's worth what I paid and probably will be worth more if I ever sell it, and probably won't be worth any less. That's all I ever ask for, and for the most part, most of my collection falls under those rules because I try not to ever overpay for anything. I hope my collection is an investment, but at worst I want it to be a savings account. It's the same as money sitting in the bank that I can enjoy more than numbers on a screen, till I need the money and sell my collection (or my heirs when I die).
I think a Dylan autograph is going to be worth at least $500 pretty much no matter what, unless he just starts cranking out autographs faster than Taylor Swift and selling them for $20, or all his fans get old and die, or autograph collecting becomes a thing of the past when future fans only want selfies, I dont see them going down in value. Any direct autograph from him in at least many years has been $500 books or $2500-3000 art prints as far as I'm aware of. I think the signed harmonicas Hohner put out were like $5,000 but I could be wrong.
So as long as he doesn't start charging way less than that, there's no real possibility for the price to go lower unless he signs so many that there's no longer anyone who wants them that doesn't have them... but considering he's worth $500 million dollars, and 81 years old, I don't see him suddenly going broke and doing autograph send ins, and going to conventions to sign thousands of autographs because he needs money. Sure he may sign more, but from his recent history it appears he don't want to sell his signature for less than $500, and signs in fairly low quantities. The cheapest what appeared to be real autograph of his I could find sold on eBay was a cd that sold for $1136.88.
So I think these are a good investment in the sense you'll never lose money on them, you'll probably gain at least some money on them, and you get to enjoy them while you own them. Will it be worth a million dollars someday? No, but I don't think it'll ever be worth less, and I do think it'll be worth at least a few hundred more in a few years... Maybe even double or triple at some point if a signed cd is worth $1200. That isn't bad for most investments to double your money.
And if you really were in it for an investment only, and to look at it from all sides... When a celeb dies the prices of their autograph spikes for awhile. It may be morbid or immoral, but autograph dealers don't seem to care, as soon as any celeb dies tons of autographs instantly pop up for sale at 5x the normal price... like Norm MacDonald, who I had on my list, and never got while they were $40 autographs, then he died unexpectedly and suddenly all the greedy dealers are asking $400 for it.
So If you're one of those dealers it's plainly obvious an 81 year old doesnt have a ton of time left, reality is at best he's got 20 years left... So as sick as it sounds I wouldn't be surprised if some dealers would consider that. If you were looking at this as 100% an investment some people will take advantage of that alone... So if the same thing happens with his autograph value as any other celeb that dies, it's a guarantee this would increase in value for at least a short time after his death... if you were the type to take advantage of that, it would be a guaranteed increase in value.
Also for anyone who made it through this essay, I'll throw this link in just for laughs... it's already an awesome investment according to eBay flippers its worth this much... so everyone who bought these is already rich with their $500 investment. Lol

It also looks like these might be the only signed editions.

How do you reach that conclusion ?
seems odd for the only signed editions to come from Canada,no ?
The article I posted seems to elude to it!
Sorry Shawn but where exactly ?
Doesnt really matter. Its written by a blog writer. This is not a professional article, this is a fan who found a link and decided to write about it.. he wouldn't have info if this will be the only release
Such a negative Nellie....
Lol, I only search for the truth. If that makes me a negative nilly or a Debbie downer or whatever, so be it. Still love the discussion though. We are always curious about the health of these old legends
Disclaimer
I am a gamer and autograph collector. I love writing about both and sharing the stories I find.
The one reason I'd almost believe that, considering it's not an official source, is that the release date is only 2 weeks away and they haven't come up anywhere else... but well have to wait and see if theres any official, reliable news other than rumor. It wouldn't surprise me though.
Good advice.
This is a hobby for me, not a business so it's all about the person (or music) who is signing and the hunt. I never expected to ever get an auto in Dylan's book, If Indigo come through and deliver this book, I'll be ecstatic. If the value goes up and my kids sell it after I'm six feet under and make a bit of cash off it, then I'm good with that too. Ditto for the rest of my collection. Meantime, it will be lovingly displayed (and I will read an unsigned copy!)
