Hi all, i was recommended to come here via Facebook, hope I'm posting in the right area!

I picked up a load of vinyl a while ago that included a Jimi Hendrix axis bold of as love first pressing. I played it and didn't pay much attention but have just noticed that it seems to have been signed by the three members on the inside gatefold.

The consensus online so far is that the signatures are legitimate . Any advice or debunking welcomed. I've already been in touch with some auction houses and will be picking one soon.

Lewis,

You said you're hoping to sort out tomorrow how to sell your Hendrix album. You're doing a great job of research but you've got more to go. Wait a few days. You'll be glad you did.

I'll write more by Calif. AM.

Ok thank you. I'm happy to chat by direct message if that's easier. I have an appointment with Bonhams this afternoon but nothing is agreed....

Bonhams is a good auction house but you need to make sure they're the best choice for your album. Check out their past music auction results. They hold 1-2 music auctions a year.

Here's a link: https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/results/?query=music

See how many signed lots they had and the prices they brought. Most UK auction houses don't use third-party authentication. Autographs with certificates of authenticity by the leading third-party authentication companies PSA/DNA, JSA, BAS, and specialist music authenticator REAL, often bring 20% to 50% more. Many US collectors won't bid without one of theirs, and the US has 5-times the population of the UK, so if your album doesn't have one it could cost you thousands, even tens of thousands of dollars...or pounds!

If you consign to an auction house, any auction house, be sure to set a reserve: a minimum hammer (final bid) price, with no charge to you if it doesn't bring that. Unless your album has significant condition problems we don't know about, I'd set it at £24,000 or higher.

Ok thank you. I'll ask about the Authentication when i speak to them, and see if i can get them to arrange it as part of the deal (whoever i go with).

I've sold many items and posted to USA with no issue, but the thought of posting something so valuable does make me very nervous!

Dont forget that you have to factor in the poor rate of the £ against the dollar if you send it to usa

The condition isn't perfect, which is why i don't want to get ahead of myself.

I've had more contact with Bonhams this morning with regards to estimate/reserve, authentication and fees so hoping they will be able to satisfy some of my queries.

I'll report back later. I really appreciate your help and guidance!

Let's talk publicly since collector education and protection is what Autograph Live is all about. Especially since finding a previously unknown genuinely signed Hendrix album isn't something you hear about every day. Or every decade!

If there's something you'd feel more comfortable discussing privately, though, you're welcome to directly message me. Click the Send a Message link in my profile.

Public is great thanks, and hopefully will attract more views and comment on my queries

It's going to get a lot of attention here.

A related question. Are there any UK based authenticators that it's worth me getting in touch with? Googling brings up a lot, but i only want to do it if it's worthwhile, and would prefer not to post to the USA

Personally if i was posting that to the USA for auction or a coa i wouldnt sleep until i had it back in my hands even the best shippers can make mistakes what value will you put on the customs form it would cost probably a couple of thousand just to insure in transit /loss cover but under insure and you could come unstuck in a big way

If it were me id stick to the UK Bonhams or Omega you can speak to them in person negotiate a deal on the final fee maybe even a fixed fee 5,000/6000 or whatever the only thing they dont offer which i use a lot is extended payment plans which could knock a few bidders out of the picture myself probably included that would mean a buyer can push a bit further than they would at say Bonhams who are horrible to deal with as a buyer and want the cash in 3 days or else but totally from a seller point of view i really wouldnt let that out of my hands until i passed it in person to the the auctioneer or buyer

Yeah exactly my point with regards to postage. I stress out about normal stuff not arriving let alone something like this. Unless someone does like an unlimited insurance amount i don't really see how I could be covered. Probably cheaper to get a flight myself!
