Hi! I bought a funko for the Michael Keaton signing from Crlberty Authentics. Long story short the coa number isn’t on their database. I reached out and they said there updating it and it wouldn’t be until everything is shipped. I know they don’t have the greatest reputation and I probably shouldn’t have spent any money. Just want to know if they are legit and if the Signiture looks okay? Please tell me I’m worrying to much.

A dealer could pay for the celeb to sign 500 but sell hundreds more that they forge. The celeb would likely never know.

"The celeb would likely never know."

Without a great resource like this site the same might be true of many collectors.

If they are selling fakes than how are they still in business?

I don't think anyone said they are selling fakes, or not, but since many or possibly most buyers will never pursue any further authentication and just hang the item on a wall that business model would generally work well.

BAS?

Granted, I would accept their opinion on Frosty the Snowman but otherwise thumbs down from me.

https://www.bas.ac.uk/

You don’t think it’s real?

It was a joke - you didn't click on the link, I take it.

The reference to "BAS" passed me by (i.e. I didn't recognize it to mean "Beckett Authentication Services") by so I had to Google it and that link was the first of the results from my search.

I hate those algorithims - no, that's not what I meant. Synonyms? No - wait while I text my daughter....................

ACRONYMS - that's it!

I did - good laugh :-)

I sent a picture to Swau for a quick opinion and it came back as likely genuine. I also sent pictures to Beckett. Again how reliable is a quick opinion? I have sent them stuff that was deemed fake but jsa looked at it and said it was.

It is not suggested to buy on the strength of a Quick Opinion. When we had sales here they were not allowed with just a Quick Opinion.  Items can pass QO and fail full authentication from the same company.

So in other words its not reliable?

It is...a guide, often used in conjunction with one's own accumulated knowledge and/or that of people you trust. It is "quick" - not a fully comprehensive judgement.
