Hi

I am thinking of buying this autograph. Sadly the photo has some rubs. But the price is very fair.

I would like to hear your opinions.

I'm not liking the signature.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the autograph either.

I'd be cautious with Rooster Cogburn images in general.  If they are to be believed, most seen in auction archives have had an inscription.  Imho, he's VERY tricky to separate what's good and what's not.  Especially in that later career era.

Here's something kind of curious that RRauction sold a number of years ago.  I do see some things I kind of like in what may be the OPs more intentional looking example.  I wish the "e" and "W" had a more firm connection like this RR:

Hi Eddy, Steve Cyrkin and Josh

Thank you for your input. I will try to let SWAU have a look. I think the autograph is very similar to the one Eddy shows. But I can see the difference that Eddy points out. I will get back with the response from SWAU.

SWAU would not give their opinion. They only evaluate on modern Hollywood autographs. I will stay a way from this autograph. Thanks for the feed back.

Just for reference, here's an image that one of the members posted some years ago.  It's a textbook secretarial example, imho.  If the RR sample above is good, the one you were considering certainly appears closer.

p.s. My hat is off to SWAU.  I've never used their services but appreciate that they were forthright with you that a signer like John Wayne is not within their parameters of authentication work.

A good decision. Here is some additional information about Wayne secretarial signatures:
