A very nice set of signatures from the Beatles last residency in Hamburg.  Signed December 25, 1962.

What do you think about the formation of the “F” in Paul’s “Of”? It looks very odd.

Actually I dont like a lot of letters. The JO in John, the PA in Paul and the CC in McCartney, the love by George....

And I think Ringo looks more like a later style esp. the star symbol and line underneath among other bits.

I noticed the “J” as well. It starts off slowly and awkwardly. I’m going to check my exemplars.

I couldn’t find a similar “CC”. George’s “H” looks slowly drawn, especially the crossbar.

In addition - it is unlikely that the Beatles were at the Seamans Mission that day - at least all of them. It seems that day they spend separate at various parties.

Those are very valid points Thorsten.

Ive not seen George write 'love' like that either and his first name reminds me too much of a summer 1963 style.

I would pass on this myself.

These early signatures are very tricky to assess. I remember seeing an autograph book with about three complete early sets being sold for over £10,000 by a UK book dealer. Turned out all were fakes but they had me fooled. Luckily, I didn't have the funds to buy them at the time.

It’s often said “The devil is in the details” It certainly looks like the forger missed these 2 important details - 1) not all the Beatles were at the Mission for Christmas dinner and 2) the 25th date is wrong.  That’s enough to cast doubt on the authenticity and quite frankly I find it hard to believe someone at a “Mission” Christmas dinner asking anyone for autographs.

I agree with you fab432 about someone collecting the autographs at a Christmas dinner, especially given the status of the group at the time. I also wonder whether many very young up-and-coming rock n' pop musicians sign their autographs with undedicated inscriptions such as "love from".  

On a different note, I wonder what, if any, comeback the buyer has against  Adam Andrusier, the authenticator. Presumably none. "Authenticated prior to the sale by xx" is vague statement, especially where there is no certificate. I've often wondered that about the REAL pre-sale authentications at RR Auction but I think it is a bit clearer there as the auction house specifically states that you can buy a full and proper authentication for $x.

I often realisize that you need to know a lot about history of the bands and not just look at the signatures. I assume REAL just looks at the signatures - no idea how much his effort is - but you have to consider many more details. There is a well known story online where REAL certificated a Metallica LP that came out after the death of a member who allegially had signed the LP...

In this case any authenticator (here Adam Andrusier) needs to know the history of the venue/date/item and consider what was stated above about a Christmas party where just bands attended etc. If he just looked into Beatlesbible he was fooled...

In addition if the Beatles at that early stage of their career wrote "love" or similar they added a name - this is missing here, too.

Adding all those facts it is very unlikely that this set is genuine although I have to admit that they are VERY good.

Here’s another good forgery that’s supposed to have been signed around the same time. It was artificially distressed and fingerprints were added.
