Hello:

I am new to the world of autograph collecting.   Bought this ball on live auctioneers.    Listing stated unauthenticated but I didn’t realize it could mean possibly not real.    Have always expected items on that service were generally assumed to be authentic.   Very naive on my part… Beckett failed this as not likely genuine.    Was wondering if someone out there could give me an additional opinion on this.   I have since looked at several Gehrig autographs and other than the Lou not being in line with Gehrig I don’t know how to identify this as not genuine.   Any help is appreciated.   Trying to learn from my mistakes even though it was a pretty big one I guess.

Yes, but he needs to get his ducks in a row. I would try to get a refund from Dalshire first, since they know there's a high chance your credit card company will refund you. It often moves it along quicker.

Agreed, Steve.

Here's a link to your Gehrig ball: https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/188805307_lou-gehrig-signed-ba...

Dalshire Intl. sells virtually nothing but forgeries and has done so on LiveAuctioneers for many years. LiveAuctioneers knows all about them but still lets them sell there.

I would NEVER, EVER buy an autograph or ANYTHING on LiveAuctioneers. There are some autograph legit sellers but most are in the business of selling forgeries. From my experience, LiveAuctioneers has shown that they don't give a damn. They are as responsible as the sellers in my opinion.

If LiveAuctioneers lets autograph sellers get away with defrauding customers, how can you trust anything offered there?

You need to file a theft by fraud report with law enforcement. You can file it locally since jurisdiction is where they deliver it to you, no matter what their contract says.

I filed disputes with my credit card and LiveAuctioneers.   Dalshire refused to do anything on the basis the listing said unauthenticated and no returns or exchanges.   So I am now waiting on my credit card company.   The real frustration is how many people it looks like have been scammed by this particular auction house.   Live auctioneers claims to have a zero tolerance policy for fraud but I don’t understand how these guys have continued to do business on that platform.   Hopefully I can get somewhere with my credit card company.

LiveAuctioneers has zero tolerance for fraud by buyers, not sellers. Are you aware of buyer protection:

I guess the guy at LiveAuctioneers told me that zero tolerance line to make me feel better.   I won’t be doing business on their website anymore that is for sure.    I always figured they vetted the houses using their platform.

I sincerely hope you get a favorable resolution to this.  It's disheartening to see how people are taken advantage of on that platform by some of their sellers and there is no vetting by LiveAuctioneers.

Separating the wheat from the chaff should be the responsibility of LiveAuctioneers and not potential bidders who are paying them an additional fee beyond the auction house premiums.
