A Big +1 from me Josh Board NEW & Improved

I totally understand people wanting to pay for it, because they don't mind spending the money. And as someone that has a lot of things signed by an entire band (music) or an entire cast (movie), I don't mind if one of the artists does just an "E" or a squiggle of some kind, because the other people have signatures you can read, and everyone is different. But to JUST have a letter, with no other signatures...just looks weird.

Imagine if Paul McCartney releases a new CD and does this. He just writes a "P" -- yes, we'd all buy it (if it was reasonably priced), but we can't expect it to really every be worth anything, or that when we die and our kids get our collection, that they'll be able to sell it.

These decisions may not be made with collectors in mind, but rather for fans who would be thrilled to own even a handwritten initial or any small token from an artist. It might offer them a way to engage with their fandom and the hobby without spending hundreds of dollars, like most of us are willing and able to do.

As frustrating as it may be, the universe doesn’t always bend to align with our desires and expectations of it.

Having a bunch of kids - I summarize my feels by the motto I used with my kids - "You get what you get and don't throw a fit..."

I too would "like" a full sig. but was happy to get a signed vinyl this time around....

just my 2 cents...

That's a great way of stating that, Austin. I used that same logic when people would complain (back in the day), about Kevin Costner's signature. It was a K, with a long, long line after it. And I used to say that was perfect, because...he can do it quickly, and fans are happy, they met him and got it. But eBay sellers aren't, which is also perfect.

BUT...let me play devils advocate here for a bit. Using your logic about merely the letter E...what if what Elton John did instead, was just make a dot. Just a big, black, Sharpie dot. A dot means nothing. It looks like nothing. BUT....we saw video of Elton putting dots on all the CDs. Does your same logic apply? I mean, after all, it's from Elton John.

What if he did? Some people would buy it. Others wouldn’t.

Some people are saying “No fair!” about something they’re under no obligation to purchase.

The people we choose to collect are under no obligation to write or move their hand a certain way.

As a collector, I understand the root of the anger and frustration, but it’s not a hill I’ll die on.

That does it  AustinCollector !

From now on I'm going to change my handle on this site to a

simple "J". OR

maybe I'll go the way of Prince and use a symbol like " %", and be known as "the collector formally known as Jimmy James."

 LOL :)

Well played, JJ !

Again Austin, you bring up good points. I guess this is just a debate I want to have because if baffles me that ANYONE would want to buy one of these. It boggles the mind, so...I throw out other scenarios wondering if it would be the same (like Elton just putting a big dot on the CD with no letters).

What about this. Everyone that bought the "E"  by Elton. And years from now, there's speculation (like we all had with the Bob Dylan fiacsco), that it wasn't Elton after all, but his assistant that did the "E." And imagine explaining your anger to a non-collector: I thought I paid $40 for Elton John to write a letter "E" but the letter "E" was actually done by his assistant!!"  The person listening would ask "Uh, why in the world do you want the letter "E" on a CD at all? It's not his name." To which you could say "Well, it's part of his name. It's one letter of his name. And I thought he made that one letter!!!!"

I remember a time 25 years ago meeting somebody at a concert, and we were talking about the autographs of musicians we've gotten, and he was pissed he met Al Green (not the politician, the wonderful soul singer), and he was pissed the signature merely said "Al" -- and that was two letters!!! And two letters that COMPLETED his first name. Yet now people are happy with a mere "E". Again, it boggles my mind, that's all.

Unless you're Easy E (rapper from NWA), or The Big E (Elvin Hayes, great basketball legend) -- I wouldn't want just an E.

DISCLAIMER: Please note the above post has been made by

" %"

(the collector formally known as Jimmy James.)

From Elton John official store:

"Thanks for reaching out! We'd like to assure you that signed albums of Elton John is hand-signed by the artist.

As always, please feel free to reach out to us if you have any other questions or concerns.

Thanks for your continued support,
  uMusic Customer Care"

Gratacoski Their words of assurance from a Customer Service Rep literally mean nothing!

As we ALL learned from the BobDylan Book & Art fiasco (where a Letter of Assurance was even included with purchases)!

Their "words" of assurance are worth about as much as the paper they're printed on.

Again, it's BUYER BEWARE
