Hi everyone! I am new here, so if I do anything I shouldn't please let me know.

I have a John Wayne autograph that has some curious points I hope you can help me with.

First is the J in John. Usually, he signed with a large loop on the top. This one is opposite. But I found two known examples that are pretty close. It looks like a large inverted "B" on the examples I found.

The ink looks to be right and seems to have some ridges. I need a more powerful loop (I am getting one). The "W" appears to push into the paper, but that may be a bend.

He usually signed "Good Luck". But I did find a couple of known signed "Best Wishes".

One of my big concerns is the photo. It is yellowed on the original, but it is a copy on white photo paper. Would Wayne have used a photo like this? You can see the yellow edge on the clean white paper. I suppose it could have been supplied by the fan?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. It has some interesting features that I think a faker would not think of.

That is a very poor forgery, sorry.

Agreed

Hi guys are you replying to me or Eric?

The photo above is throwing me off. Is that a authentic autograph to compare to or is it a poor forgery?

Hi George, that was shown was an authentic example from RR Auctions. Sorry for the confusion.

george -  I'm afraid yours is not even close to being real.  Sorry.

Hi guys, in no way am I disagreeing or trying to convince you. But I found a couple that are authentic also and pretty similar. Particularly the switch back "o" and the "h"s. What are your thoughts?

And look at the lower case "s" on each example.

They are different. Still a forgery, sorry.

george -

Those last two you showed are both not from Wayne's hand.  The second one is a classic 60s/70s secretarial.  The first is either a forgery or a very stylized secretarial from an earlier era.

With your permission, I would like to show the exemplar you began with on a small classic Hollywood autograph collecting group site that I administer. I think members there they would find it interesting as an example of what has been passed off on the market as from Wayne's hand.

Please feel free to show them! I am glad you can get use of it! You have been very informative, and it is greatly appreciated!
