Star Wars Collectors Unite!

I have been collecting Star Wars autographs since 1998. Not all of my signatures are on Star Wars memorabilia. For example, when I met Warwick Davis at a comic convention in New York City, I had him sign a Willow photograph. I also have publicity photos of Sir Alec Guinness and Christopher Lee from the 1970s, and a Natalie Portman signed The Diary of Anne Frank theater poster from her performance on Broadway back in 1998. My current wish list includes Peter Cushing, Terence Stamp and John Williams. I am interested in knowing about the collections and wish lists of other members.

Don't give up on it so easily Tim. It actually contains some characteristics that are typical of Sir Alec's autograph later in his life. It is certainly not an obvious forgery. The underline still concerns me.

Agree. A clearer, sharp image that shows the flow of the ink would be helpful.

Thanks for joining the discussion Mr. Zipper. I was actually comparing it to the ones that you received through the mail at one point. The shape and slant of the "A" compare relatively well to your Lawrence of Arabia autographed photo. So does the initial shakiness. It is the way that it finishes that is concerning me.

Cheers for your input guys. I've researched a little online and I don't feel too bad about it. That shakyness at the start seems typical to many examples and the autograph itself looks identical to several I found. I do agree that the underline is unusual though. Most examples show him underline with a simple horizonal line under the signature but mine has more of a flourish to it. I saw this one on Ebay that has that curved bit at the start:

I agree that the shape generally looks good and if it is a fake, it's a pretty deceptive.

As Mike mentioned the underline is a bit unusual, and what also struck me is the pen type. I could be wrong, but in my experience he usually used a fountain pen or some type of metal tip like a rollerball. Yet, this example appears to be a fine tip felt tip marker. Not a fatal flaw, but someone else to weigh when making evaluation.

It isn't the flourish of the underline that concerns me as much as the way that it finishes. There is typically a deliberate stop to it that would allow the ink to pool at the end. I would also feel much better about it if the shakiness continued throughout the autograph and did not stop at the "G". There are still enough typical characteristics not to feel too bad about it.

Are you looking to buy a full size poster? That may be difficult to find with only George Lucas' autograph on it since most Star Wars collectors have other autographs added to full size posters as well. It may be easier to find a smaller size with a single George Lucas autograph on it. I purchased an 8x10 photo of an Empire Strikes Back poster that was signed by George Lucas. The smaller images give a nicer presentation of the autograph in my opinion. I saw a George Lucas autographed 8x10 photo of a Phantom Menace poster in Sid Cahuenga's at Disney's Hollywood Studios last summer. The shop has since closed down. Good luck Mike T. Keep us posted.

Hi mike -

Sorry should have been more specific! It can be any type of poster, not necessarily movie poster size. It can also contain other signatures, Lucas is the only must have. Looking for something larger than a photo with room for more sigs, poster is ideal because it is representative of the whole movie vs just one scene or pose. Looking to fill out the rest of the cast at cons between now and Anaheim next year. Thanks!

Alex Guinness signed theater photo, Christopher Lee signed 'Hammer Horror book', Warwick Davis signed autobiography. In person Kenny Baker who brought a signed poster by Jeremy Bulloch (they were here in Ireland at a Star Wars event. London- 1990's in person Carrie Fisher and Billy Dee Williams, around then also in person Frank Oz (got a lovely big signiture from him!) and 2006 in-person Mark Hamill.
