The "old man" theory doesn't hold water, in my opinion. Compare the first signature that Mark posted to the one he recently received on the debut LP. Obviously the same signer, but the signature on the debut LP is much neater and smoother. You'd never know that it was signed by an old man.
There's 27 pages, I don't know which ones you are referring to, but I just compared Mark's recent TTM returns to the several "signed book" examples from this thread and none of them are even remotely comparable IMHO. To the point of where I don't even understand how you can rationally argue about it:
when was this one questioned as not being authentic?
It wasn't questioned as not being authentic. My point is that you couldn't determine that it was signed by an old man based on its appearance.
agreed
Thank you. So he's capable of both a sloppy signature and smooth, neat one.
I never said that couldn't happen. But the characteristics of his "sloppy" signature and the books which were called sloppy sigs are not even close to being the same.
It appears that the threat of "JLL" doing something about questioning his signature has swayed your opinion on these autographs. Could you share the emails you received from others that have told you about the "legal" action that is alleged to be taking place?
I know you didn't say that. It's being implied that JLL couldn't have signed the books because the signatures don't appear to be in the hand of an old man.
I'm not sure what you mean in your second paragraph. I've held the same opinion about the signatures since early on in the TTM discussion. I haven't received any emails regarding any legal action.
PSA/DNA autheticated at least two JLLs that are supposed to be in the hand of Whitten. Apparently they believe that it can be rationally argued.
The difference is that PSA did not cert the suspect pick guards as part of a huge batch of consistently atypical examples. In onesies and twosies it is conceivable the suspect style could slip by.
