I agree 100% right back Mark! :-)

I think it´s a great loss for this site that Roger has chosen not to be active here anymore and I hope that we don´t loose more members because of people that only seems to be on the hunt for someone to attack.! Again, I am speaking in general here, not about this thread in particular!

As I said earlier, I love this site and have learned a lot (in fact, almost everything I know...) from the members here. And when I think about it, 5 of my absolute favorite autographs (U2, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Freddie Mercury/Roger Taylor and John Lennon) have I bought from other AML members. Another great reason for being here! :-)

And by the way, here´s a link to some of the above autographs if someone is interested:

:-)

My apologies (to the original poster of this thread) for sidetracking the conversation, but since the question was asked, comments like:

Trond Johansen:
"I respect Roger, and has used him for opinions before I bought a couple of my own Springsteen autographs some years ago, he is mostly good on rock items."

or

Trond Johansen:
"There are people out there, like Roger Epperson, who has helped a lot of people when they are in doubt, and some of these people have good skills, especially on certain autographs."

do come across as condescending (and almost back handed) to me.

The fact that Roger Epperson (and others) can instantly recognize a "Billy Smith" item, means that the autographs are not only inconsistent with known authentic exemplars, but consistent with each other (i.e. on the balance of probabilities, forgeries).

And when you make statements like:

Trond Johansen:
"I personally would not had sent it back, even if someone had the opinion it was a fake. I prefer, when it comes to Springsteen/ESB to trust my own opinion on the items."

or

Trond Johansen:
"Ok, then I would say that the item imo would probably be not too bad if someone would like to consider buying the one in question over here."

about multi-thousand-dollar items Roger has deemed forgeries, you're in every practical sense presenting yourself as an expert.

You also state (on Billy Smith) that:

Trond Johansen:
"He is very trusted and have a high star in what we call the E Street Nation."

and that is exactly the reason he (or anyone else in his position) should be subjected to heightened scrutiny (especially after selling countless other forgeries over the years).

+1

I have no interest whatsoever to continue this conversation. Everything you say over here have been repudiated by me and others No, I have never said I am an expert, no, my statements concerning any person are not condescending in any way. That someone still can't let it go is not my or any other person's problem.

I weren´t planning to say anymore on this subject, but this is beginning to be ridiculous...

Trond said:

1. That he respect Roger and that he thought he were mostly good on rock items.

and

2. That Roger has helped a lot of people and have good skills, especially on certain autographs.

Based on the above member J.Mikael thinks that Trond has been "condescending (and almost back handed)" against Roger. I´m sorry, maybe it´s because english isn´t my first language, but I´m totally lost here...

How can any of the above be condescending when:

a. Roger in reality is "mostly good on rock items". That is his speciality, to authenticate rock items, so how can this be condescending?

b. Roger in reality has "good skills on certain autographs", meaning music autographs. Not movie and historic autographs, "just" music autographs. That´s why Trond said "certain autographs", because that´s true, not condescending...

That´s all I have to say about this, now I´m out of this thread!

Please understand that I'm not attacking Trond (or any of my fellow forum members here). However, when someone's offering advice that's contrary to expert opinions, I feel it's reasonable to ask for their credentials as gullibility in these matters can lead to costly mistakes.

Calling someone who's considered by many the best ("den bästa") in his field "mostly good" ("mestadels bra" or "inte så dålig" in Swedish), in context with the assertion that Roger is somehow categorically wrong on all the many forgeries Billy has sold, is hardly a compliment.

Good point J. Mikael.  And it's important to remember that not only Roger Epperson says those Springsteen/Billy Smith's are all forgeries but PSA, RR Auction,  and JSA agree (I know this for a fact because I've had most of them checked).  By Trond telling members of this forum that it's ok to buy the one that started this topic could possible cost someone here a lot of money so it's important that the members speak out.  By my count not one other Autograph Magazine.com member or Third Party authenticator has said that the BUSA album in authentic.  Still waiting....

Honestly, I don`t think anybody will dare say anything about this particular album after this discussion, whether they think it is good or not. I have said my opinion, I don't tell anybody to buy it, I don't recommend anything to anybody, just stating my opinion. And I stand by it, nothing I have seen or read the last couple of days have changed my mind.

It would be great if everyone could put any hard feelings to rest and just chalk this up to passionate concern about authenticity. You're all good people here.

I agree with Jan. Trond communicates in English very well, but he may not have the subtleties down like natural English speakers do. And I feel that Trond is a sincere member of this site who gives his opinions honestly.

Everyone has gotten their opinions across based on their own experiences and trust. Fans and collectors reading this discussion will have the information they need to make decisions they are comfortable with.

Thanks Jan and Steve, for kind words, I wasn't going to reply on this anymore, but as Jan say, this is beginning to become ridiculous. There is no use to take people`s words and sentences and twist them, and then use them to attack, and make people seem to say anything else than they did. I think Roger is good on certain (as Jan said music, particularly rock autographs) There is nothing there to misunderstand. And if people with an opinion and some experience can`t say anything here without being attacked like this, I think I will abstain from that for a while. Some people on this site should go into themselves, and think twice before they say anything about others.

Everybody should agree to disagree and go to the next subject. Its pretty boring if everybody agrees all the time anyway. I will be glad when everybody stops talking about Roger. He is no longer here.
