It is shame such an esteemed automobile auction house is still falling for this crap. I mean who do they team up with?
Maybe 10 years ago they worked with crooks from Itsonlyrockndroll--the zakarins--to get into the rock auction business. So much has happened since then---American Royal Arts for instance-that no major company should let's such things slip by....I mean the buyers of these things are going to find out real quick and it tarnishes b. Jackson's name
I've seen no evidence Itsonlyrockandroll ever knowingly sold fakes. The business practices that led to its demise are another matter.
At least some bogus items that may be sold at the BJ Show are believed to come from a somewhat well-known business located in a western state.
the zakarins, marc and Debbie, did work with Barrettt Jackspn and are crooks but you are right they are not outright forgers. They are the kind that don't pay consigners, take money from buyers but don't send product, bidding at their own auction, and things of that nature. The ny courts have already ruled on this
Their fraud is no longer rumors, but found guilty in NY court and ordered to pay people back to the tune of over a million dollars.
Found "guilty"???
Of criminal fraud?
Never heard of such a thing. Can you post a link to the documents or a news story about it?
Again, I know of no evidence that took place.
Not defending their business practices. But plenty of companies got caught up in the downturn. When auctions started yielding less revenue they couldn't pay consigners and went out of business. Customers got burned.
Again, not defending it. But the economic downturn sank them. If they needed ongoing auctions to pay previous consigners then that's analagous to a ponzi scheme. But there's no indication they pulled a "bust out" to get away with customers' money.
(Although I understand that those who didn't get paid may not think there's any difference between criminality and the poor business practices that sank the company. All customers care about is losing their pieces and their money).
Sounds like you are familiar with them being sued. That may b the case I am thinking of-I can get the docket number for you eventually (I was in the lawsuit for awhile-never collected anything).
But I know several people ho worked for them be agree with me- and I have , like many, stories support me but were not in the court case.
I will try to get one of those former employees to comment here
It's important to distinguish between losing a lawsuit and being found guilty of a crime. When you say found guilty, that can only by criminal prosecution.
I see. I think they were found guilty of financial fraud because they didn't pay consignors money they were owed for sold items, didn't return items that didn't sell, etc. But I don't know for certain and they may have been found guilty of something else. But they were found guilty of something
The autograph sellers who set up displays at Barrett Jackson's Auto Auction are riddled with forgeries. I am there every year and see the same thing. Garbage. These are just businesses who pay to set up a booth to sell. Barrett Jackson has no clue what is good or bad nor do they probably care. They have exhibitor space that needs to be sold and they sell it to anyone.
I watched a guy make a $5,000 buy on some signed Howard Hughes stuff. Signed matchbooks in a fancy frame. I could only watch and shake my head. Amazed at how foolish some people are.
I see, It is not barrett Jackson selling so I guess their name is not tarnished-they certainly sell some fine cars
Yes, but I wish the classic car auctions checked their vendors better. This is not rare occurance.
