Here's a signed poster that I'm sure most of you guys have already seen.It was sold on rr a while back and more recently on iconic. The first picture is of the piece in its original untouched condition.the second picture is of the same piece with major restoration work to it.The owner was asking me if I was Interested in buying it.With that kind of work done to a piece such as this, should I totally pass on it.How much can this effect the value?

I hate to say I really like it also.Ive also looked at all the other sigs and I don't see anything with them either.Im callimg him in about 7 hours.I'll let you know what he said.btw it is cool that the dedication is to Paul.

Well, I've said what I could from my small vantage and experience. I did not view the other sigs. Maybe I will. I do wonder if a restored/enhanced poster is viewed as "less authentic". Which signatures were adjusted does not alter the fact it is a heavily adjusted or enhanced example. From a buyer, what will be said? I know what I'd say. I have to believe this will be viewed as second tier ultimately , even if many have been restored/enhanced. There is the not saying so upfront, the unknown (?) stability (!!!), I don't know. I do know I'd pass. What is the upside? Price? I'll over pay, not the opposite. The price is low for a reason as someone said. Someone else said they have "just" a Lennon on a slip and turned down 6K. This is 7K total for a poster. That's it. To settle or not to settle? IS it settling? I think so, but I am not buying it

Eric

what are your black light stories?

Good luck! I would ask Jason what it was offered to the other party at.

I just looked at Tracks' website and they have a signed 1965 tour program, 13.5 x 20.5 inches for GBP8995. Most of Lennon's surname didn't take well, however.

The poster you're considering is not listed.
It is a nicely signed poster!
It is indeed a nice item and to most people the restoration will be viewed as a good thing. I feel confident you could get your money back should you ever decide to sell it on.

Respectfully, it has been altered with "live signing" elements possibly in the hand of Paul removed (doodles), so it is not restoration. There appears to be enhancement, and changes have been shown to some degree. Then there is the shadow on the right. Digital artifact? Doesn't look it. Look at the top of the loop of the "l" in "Paul"...the missing doodles... I don't know. It is "original? Less "original" than others? Are these the type of issues or questions you'd like to field as a seller? And the low price...

Eric

I totally respect your knowledge Eric and I have found your posts educational. I'm trying to think of the best way to say this, Imagine a wine expert who had a fantastic knowledge of wine. He could pick the best wine and explain why it is so good. Now, the reverse would probably be true in that he could use his knowledge to explain why a particular wine isn't so good even though that same bottle of wine would taste fine to almost everybody else.

The thing is though that the vast majority of people who would see this autographed Beatle poster or maybe even consider buying it at a later date would see it as a more attractive item after the work than before. Ignorance really can be bliss. There are limits to what most people would find acceptable and I think this item falls into the range that most people would be happy with.

Paul is at least in a position to make a more educated decision now.

Hi Karl,

Than you for the kind words. I agree with what you said about potential viewers or buyers. As I started in this thread - I have absolutely no doubt which will sell and for more. It is a personal choice, alterations aside. I just picked out some more - such the removal of an ink spot from signing inside Ringo's pen stroke. Cool? To each his own? When does the threshold of of...authenticity come into play?.

Eric

Restoration/enhancement if you choose, will always follow this item. Even the first word of this thread is "Restored".

weLL said about the public marketplaces,  The vast majority won't care AS LONG AS THE PAPErWORK ON WHO CHANGED IT, MODIFIED IT, REStORED IT, , WHEN , WHY, HOW, ETC is included and publicized.

If that knowledge has to be uncovered in this fashion it loses it appeal ... for a while, but not for long.

Hello,

"...to most people the restoration will be viewed as a good thing..." KarlKeaton

I don't know. Was it viewed as a good thing by the OP when he found the before photo online not having seen it before?

Eric

I cannot speak for the OP but I should imagine that any concerns he might have had were based upon thoughts that it might devalue the item rather than the work making it less attractive to look at.

Whether or not the item is devalued seems to be a matter of opinion with most people not having the knowledge to view it from a critical perspective.

I think your knowledge has made you more aware and therefore more critical in this area. For me, the work on the actual signatures is something I regard as minimal on this piece. It's how Paul feels about it that is important though but I would hate him to think that the work is something that everybody would even notice.
