Here's a signed poster that I'm sure most of you guys have already seen.It was sold on rr a while back and more recently on iconic. The first picture is of the piece in its original untouched condition.the second picture is of the same piece with major restoration work to it.The owner was asking me if I was Interested in buying it.With that kind of work done to a piece such as this, should I totally pass on it.How much can this effect the value?

I decided to look at this a different way, my strengths are with celebrity autographs...Star Wars especially. A handful of Star Wars posters hit the market every few years that were signed and inscribed by Peter Cushing, and also signed by Carrie Fisher's secretary, aside from those 2 autographs the remainder of the cast had also signed, Restoration work has been done on them, the name Peter inscribed the poster to has been removed and the secretarial Fisher has been removed and signed by Carrie in another area.

I am not aware of any touch ups on other signatures on these posters, yet I have stayed away from them at every chance, because they had been altered.

If paper needed to fill a pin hole or dirt had to be removed.....I could see myself going for them, but any alteration to the signatures and I am out.

Bring a black light for fun.

Lol
I'm gonna sleep on it.Not trying to be Ignorant here but if it's just those couple of resto points that Eric pointed out, that is about 1% of all the sigs. Its so minimal.

Hi Paul.

I gotta say, the scan I posted is the only area I examined on the whole poster. No idea what else may have been done. I literally only looked at the image/signature I showed. Even with a guarantee for stability...to me it is a problem and to others here as well. Signature adjustment seems a very weak hand. Potential buyer will see only 1 thing IMO, and mention it repeatedly. After the good price, what are the strengths?

You are shedding doubts on this possible purchase.I thank you for grounding me.I sometimes buy with my heart and overlook things.Im still going to talk to Jason tomorrow, however even with the return policy,I might just forget about it once again!! Like Steve said ,if it was not restored,it would be worth so so much more. What a shame.

I will point out once again, that Jason is one of those guys looked upon as one of maybe 3 or 4 people that are a real authority on Beatles signed material.

If he is selling this piece at the price he is....there is a reason for it being priced the way it is.

I own a single Beatles autograph, just one on a 3x5 book page John Lennon with Harry Nilsson also on the page and I turned down a $6,000 offer.

This piece is all four on a poster including multiple Paul graphs for $7,000?

This is either the deal of the century or too good to be true.

You have to flip the coin and decide which.

Pete makes some excellent points Paul altho it would be so cool to have  your own dedicated Beatles poster.  However, Tracks prices are so high that one does have to wonder somewhat why the price for  this is that cheap.  However, good luck with what you decide.  You must have an amazing beatles collection by now!

Pete,
It's priced low definitly because of the resto.imo there would be no other reason why it's selling at such a price.I already brought this up with Jason.

I might guess the decision has been rendered. The majority of this thread has been about the restoration (bad or good), not about the beautiful signatures and "newly" "pristine" item. I have "sort of" funny stories about very unexpected black lights revealing false eyes, teeth, etc.

Eric

I just spent some time looking at the poster unrestored and restored. The main McCartney signature, the biggest one of the four, above the boys, is clearly unrestored and very nice.

Erik pointed out an area where something may have been added to one of the other McCartneys on the right side. Personally, I'm not concerned about that because they are extra McCartneys and if something was done it was very minor.

The Lennon, Ringo, and Harrison all look the same to me on both images, so best as I can tell, there have been no restorations to the four main and most important signatures.

And Lennon inscribed it to you, Paul. That is rather cool.

If the restoration work was done by Jaime Mendez, it should be very nice quality work. Like everyone, I think it's sad that he removed the ink on John's face, tho.

I don't know if there is a price history for these posters signed. That would be something worth researching or asking Jason.

So I do really like it. And keep in mind, Jason may be willing to negotiate the price. After all, the person who was offering it to you was going to make a profit. It never hurts to ask.
I need to stop dictating into my iPad. It doesn't understand me half the time.
